{"id":10060,"date":"2012-01-08T16:37:51","date_gmt":"2012-01-08T16:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cricketcountry.com\/?p=10060"},"modified":"2012-01-08T16:37:51","modified_gmt":"2012-01-08T16:41:10","slug":"india-set-to-lose-no-2-spot-in-test-rankings-to-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cricketcountry.com\/news\/india-set-to-lose-no-2-spot-in-test-rankings-to-south-africa-10060\/","title":{"rendered":"India set to lose No. 2 spot in Test rankings to South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"img-caption-wrap img-caption-wrap-left \"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/st3.cricketcountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cricket\/5ce739cfc735543f6256fdd2aac0569b.jpeg\" title=\"India set to lose No. 2 spot in Test rankings to South Africa \" alt=\"India set to lose No. 2 spot in Test rankings to South Africa \" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"imgcaption\"> India are trailing by 2-0 in the four match Test series against Australia \u00a9 Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dubai: Jan 8, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even if India  manage to win the next two Tests against Australia, it will still lose  its second place in the ICC Test ranking to South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>India have conceded a 0-2 lead to Australia in the four-match series.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If  the series in Australia ends in a draw, then India and South Africa  will be locked at 117 ratings points but the Proteas will be ranked  ahead of India when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Australia wins 3-0, it will move to 110 ratings  points, two behind India, while a 3-1 series win will mean India will  drop to 113 ratings points while Australia will rise to 108 ratings  points.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, if Australia makes a clean sweep of the series,  then both sides will be locked at 111 ratings points but India will  still be ranked above Australia by a fraction of a point.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,  the news is not good for the Indian players as Sachin Tendulkar has  dropped two places to sixth position and Rahul Dravid has fallen four  spots to 15th position.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>VVS Laxman has dropped one place to 18th  spot and Virender Sehwag has fallen out of the top 20, in 22nd position,  after conceding four places.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Australia captain Michael  Clarke has rocketed his way into the top 10 for the first time in 15  months after his career-best unbeaten triple century.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clarke  scored 329 runs and jumped 12 places to eighth position. The skipper has  also become his side&#8217;s highest-ranked batsman after leapfrogging  Michael Hussey.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hussey has moved up four places to 12th position after scoring an unconquered 150.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In  the Rankings for Test bowlers, Australia&#8217;s Ben Hilfenhaus has broken  into the top-20 for the first time in his career. Hilfenhaus, who had  figures of 3-51 and 5-106, has jumped 11 places to claim 11th position.  The 28-year-old Tasmanian is just two ratings points behind 10th-ranked  Daniel Vettori of New Zealand.
