India Women are off to perfect start to their journey of limited-overs cricket ahead of ICC World Cup 2017. India, who are participating in the ongoing quadrangular series against South Africa, Ireland and Zimbabwe, have won all their matches so far. Earlier, playing against South Africa earlier, their spearhead bowler Jhulan Goswami broke the record as the leading wicket-taker of Women’s ODIs. This time, 19-year-old Deepti Sharma has broken several records in one go while playing against Ireland Women at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. She went past England’s former skipper Charlotte Edward’s highest ODI score of 173. However, she fell short by 12 runs to become the second woman to score an ODI 200. Her teammate Vanitha VR was excited to learn about the youngster’s progress. Vanitha believes that Deepti has has grown in confidence as an opener. Speaking to CricketCountry and said, “She is a fabulous player. One of the exciting youngsters we have. Two years back what I saw and till now, she has matured a lot. Probably with experience she is learning. She used to bat in the middle-order when she joined the team. Now as an opener, she is lot more confident. Apart from Deepti, Poonam Raut also put up a stellar show but was retired out on 109. Both the openers registered a 320-run opening stand, the highest ever in ODIs across genders.

India went on to end their innings at 358 for 3. This is not only the first time India registered a score in excess of 300 but also the 10th highest total in Women’s ODI history.India now have two games remaining in the series against South Africa and Zimbabwe Women on May 17 and 19 respectively.
