Gaby Lewis stated that Ireland is going to keep the form after they won against Belfast on Wednesday, as the game changed from 50-overs to 20-overs.

Gaby, who is currently taken in place of Laura Delany, is an opener, but was left to the lower-order by Ireland who destroyed the lower order by three wickets.

The result had no impact in the series, England claimed a 2-1 win in the first two matches, but the feelgood factor has been visible to the hosts, especially after failing to qualify for the Women’s T20 World Cup next month.

Not only will they be going to see people in Clontarf, Ireland coming out as the top in a contest reduced to 22 overs clearly indicates augurs with their position in the format.

“It’s huge,” Lewis said. “If you suffer a defeat in the last game of the series, you’re on a bit of a downer coming into the next series. But that just puts the defeat to the back of your mind. It’s not forgotten, we have obviously learned from it, but all you can all you can remember is the buzz we had on Wednesday.”

“So, we’re looking forward to bringing that positivity into these two games this weekend. And especially because it was a shortened game, it gives us that confidence in the T20 format. We’re looking forward to a 2-0 series win this weekend!”

The national sports complex in Blanchardstown, near Dublin, is the site of the national cricket stadium that the Irish government has announced plans to build. Ireland, England, and Scotland will co-host the T20 World Cup in 2030, and the stadium will be used to stage matches during that tournament.

In the government’s statement, it is stated that the facility’s first phase of development will be completed by 2028. This stage will include building the main stadium, which can accommodate 4,000 people in seats.

To further aid in the growth of cricket in Ireland, the complex will include practice arenas and a specialized performance center.

“It is really pleasing to see how the sport has grown, at all levels, in Ireland over recent years,” Catherine Martin, minister for sport said. “A National Stadium and high performance centre will provide Cricket Ireland with the facilities required to further grow participation numbers.”

Cricket Ireland’s CEO, Warren Deutrom, said that the significance of the latest news is comparable to that of Ireland’s 2017 full membership status in the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“It is a huge tribute to everybody involved at all levels in Irish cricket who have got us to the stage whereby the government genuinely regards us as a sport of national significance worthy of major investment,” he said.

In the one-off Test between Ireland and Zimbabwe, a rather distinct event took place. We have till now seen batters run across to collect doubles and triple, but it is very rare that moments like these happen, as a batter managed to complete 5 runs by running between the wickets. This rare moment was caught during the 4th day of the match, where Ireland was trying to chase the target of 185 runs, and at that time, were sitting firm on a score of 74/5. It was the second ball of 18th over where Andy McBrine neatly executed an off-side drive and the ball went to the boundary line.

The ball went pacing towards the boundary, Tendai Chatara was giving his effort to stop the ball from reaching the boundary line and he did. He stopped the ball just a few centimetres away from the rope, but the momentum from all the running took the fielder way beyond he wanted to, which made it difficult for him to return the ball.

By the time the ball was back, Andy McBrine and Lorcan Tucker had already added 5 runs in the team’s total as they kept on running between the wickets.

Speaking about the match, McBrine and Tucker compiled 96 runs before Tucker was taken down by Blessing Muzarabani, with Ireland only being 41 runs short from victory.

However, Mark Adair settled quickly on the pitch in his full form, quickly making 24 runs not out and then also hitting the final boundary as Ireland reached 158-6 to claim their triumph. They even had more than a day to spare.

After recovering from a significantly dramatic top-order collapse, Andy McBrine came out as the star of the match with both his batting and bowling skills as Ireland won over Zimbabwe by four wickets in a one-off Test in Belfast on Sunday.

With just mere 158 runs to win, Ireland started bad was they got to 33-5 as the third day closed on Saturday. Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava did the most of the damage in this as he made 4-12 in four overs.

Lorcan tucker and McBrine completed a fine all-round match with 55 being not out, as they turned the game after coming together when Ireland were at 21-5.

The addition of 96 runs before the sixth wicket of Tucker still kept Ireland 41 runs away from victory. However, Mark Adair, settled quickly settled on the field and was 24 not out when hitting the winning boundary as Ireland finished on the exact score of 158-6 to emerge out victorious with more than a day to spare.

After the match, off-spinner McBrine was named as the player of the match as he scored a combined 7-75 in the two innings played by Zimbabwe.

“McBrine is the guy you want to put in your cricket bag and take everywhere. Exceptionally skilful and deserved the award today,” said Andy Balbrine, Ireland team captain.

“We did believe last night,” said Balbirnie.

“We had our two best batters out (there). That partnership was special. It was fitting for Mark, hometown boy, to get us over the line.”

“Probably didn’t think growing up that there’d be a Test here,” said McBrine.

“We tried to be as positive as we can.” McBrine said that before paying his tribute to Ireland’s quicks, he had been working hard behind the scenes on his bowling.

“It was not an easy wicket to bowl on but the way they rotated allowed me to take wickets as well.”

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine was left with nothing but thoughts of what would have happened if they had been able to continue the play on Saturday night when Ireland were on 33-5.

“We’d have liked five, six more overs last night,” he said. “Our games against have Ireland have always been competitive.”

New York: Pacer Arshdeep Singh said he only focused on sticking with his plan as controlling the ball on the drop-in pitch in cloudy conditions was a big task for India’s quicks in their eight-wicket win against Ireland, in their T20 World Cup opener.

Though India had an easy outing at the Nassau County International Stadium on Wednesday, dismissing Ireland for 96 in 16 overs and overhauling the target in 12.2 overs, Arshdeep conceded that controlling the swing was an difficult task and he banked on team-mate Jasprit Bumrah’s advice to overcome the issue.

“I made every effort to pitch the ball on the scrambled seam but the ball was swinging so much that it was hard to get it on the scrambled seam. Yes, there were a lot of wides from me,” conceded the left-armer.

“Jassi bhai (Bumrah), with his loads of experience, keeps telling us not to go after wicket. Just keep it simple, keep bowling in the right areas and whatever result comes it’s good whether you are able to stop the flow of runs or get wickets,” said Arshdeep during the post-match press conference.

“The plan was to keep it simple and aim straight for the wicket to get more LBWs, clean bowled and caught-behind decisions, keep all the options open. And, if they go for a big slog or try going down the wicket, then it’s okay, but yeah we will keep bowling the same way.”

With the pitch at the Nassau County International Stadium becoming a hot topic of discussion among the experts because of below-par scores, Arshdeep said for a bowler like him, he would rather focus on his process rather than look at the scoreboard.

“I guess, as bowlers, we back ourselves to defend anything and we make every effort to ensure whatever be the score that is our par score. (We) follow the process and not look too much at the scoreboard.”

The pacer said the team would approach the match against Pakistan in New York on Sunday in the same manner.

“It’s the same. Any team that is in front of you nothing changes. Our process remains the same, length will remain the same. As far as planing goes, we have to see what batter plays well in which position. It dosen’t matter what team is playing against you, we only think how best we can perform and give our best,” he said.

New York: Arshdeep Singh had a mixed day in the office in India’s first 2024 T20 World Cup game against Ireland. After dismissing both the Irish openers in the same over, Arshdeep proved to be expensive in his next overs.

In his quota of 4 overs, the pacer ended up giving 35 runs and took 2 wickets. These are not bad figures per se but given how much help the New York pitch was providing particularly to the pacers, these numbers can be seen as expensive.

Arshdeep’s second over saw him give away 13 runs, including four wides. His last over was worse, as he conceded 16 runs, which significantly boosted the score of the struggling Ireland batting lineup. Thanks to these expensive overs, Ireland ended up reaching a score of 96, despite struggling at 50/8 at one point.

The Punjab Kings paceman drew mixed reactions from fans on social media, who were unimpressed with his bowling. Many felt that Arshdeep had not capitalized on his brilliant first over.

“Arshdeep just offers you a little more variety,” Sanjay Manjrekar had said on Star Sports ahead of the T20 World Cup.

It must be kept in mind that Arshdeep has been India’s highest wicket-taker in the past 12 months in T20Is and also took 19 wickets in IPL 2024 with the Punjab Kings.

India will be expecting Arshdeep to improve his economy rate as their next match in the T20 World Cup will be against arch-rivals, Pakistan where the left-handed pacer would be going head-to-head  against Pakistan’s own left-arm pacemen Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Amir.

New York: In the eighth match of the T20 World Cup, India took on Ireland at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York. India won the toss and decided to bowl. It was a wise decision as New York’s pitch is really helpful for pacers and provides them with a lot of swing.

Right from the beginning, the Indian bowlers started tearing apart Ireland’s batting lineup. Arshdeep Singh took the first wicket for India by dismissing the Irish captain, Paul Stirling. In the same over he also sent Andrew Balbirnie back to the dugout.

The Indian bowlers were not only picking up wickets but were also maintaining a great economy rate. Hardik Pandya was soon handed the ball and he showed why he deserved his place in the squad even after his dismal performance in IPL 2024.

Pandya dismissed Ireland’s third batsman Lorcan Tucker in the sixth over and from that point on, Ireland would go on to lose 5 more wickets in the next 5 overs.

Josh Little and Gareth Delany played important cameos of 14 and 26 runs respectively and made Ireland reach a score of 96 before getting bundled out by the Indian bowlers.

Pandya had the best bowling figures for India as he took 3 wickets and gave 27 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets while giving away only 6 runs in 3 overs and Arshdeep also took 2 wickets. It was indeed a terrific bowling performance by India.

New York: The mood of the Indian fans going into India’s tournament opener against Ireland is that of a party before the real deal, the supposed landscape changer, next Sunday between India and Pakistan.

The Ireland fixture may even look like a warm-up match to many but there is no reason as to why India should underestimate Ireland. The Irishmen come into this tournament after bagging wins against Pakistan and Afghanistan in the T20 format. Add to that the unpredictable pitch at the Nassau County International Stadium, and Ireland might even end up causing a huge upset.

If we go by the stats, India are ranked as the number one side in the world while Ireland occupy the eleventh spot, India have emerged victorious in all the 7 T20 matches that have been played between the 2 nations and coming into this tournament, India have only lost 2 T20Is out of a possible 14 while on the other hand, Ireland have lost 8 out of their last 14.

However, the World Cup is known to reduce the gaps among the teams. In the last edition, Ireland stunned the West Indies and eventual champions, England as well so it would not be a very big surprise if they manage to cause an upset against India.

Head coach Rahul Dravid understands the importance of this match and also knows about the price that the team can pay if they take any opposition lightly.

“We are preparing for this match in a similar way as we are preparing for Pakistan and Australia. We know that they recently defeated Pakistan. We know that Ireland plays a lot of T20 cricket. In this format, you can’t take anyone lightly,” he said on Monday.

An aspect that can come to haunt the Indian batsmen is the height of the Irish bowlers. Mark Adair is 6 feet 4, Josh Little stands at 6 feet 3, Craig Young is 6 feet 2 and Barry McCarthy, Ben White, Curtis Campher are all 6 feet 1. Tall seamers with brisk pace could be a devilish entity if the surface abets indifferent bounce, as it did in the game between South Africa and Sri Lanka. Not to forget the slow outfield of the stadium will pose it’s own challenges.

Sure, the Indian batsmen are aware and experienced but Ireland will be lurking in the shadows ready to pounce on any mistake that they make.

Ireland’s captain, Paul Stirling termed the game against India as “the trickiest of all” and Rohit Sharma can repay him with the exact same compliment. However, the larger narrative of the game will be the arrival of India so that they can breathe life into this World Cup and make it feel like one.

India and Ireland are set to clash in the eighth match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday, June 5.

New York: India will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on Wednesday, June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Both the teams are placed in Group A.

India are termed as the favorites to win this match as they have a fabulous record against the Irishmen having emerged victorious in all the 7 T20Is that have taken place between the two nations so far.

Despite not winning an international trophy for almost 11 years, still India are considered as one of the favorites to win this tournament. Their recent T20I record has been remarkable with 4 wins and only 1 loss in their last 5 matches.

On the other hand, Ireland had quite a hard time qualifying for the World Cup. They missed out on a direct entry which meant that they had to participate in the European qualifications. They secured a commendable second-place finish in the qualifiers. Ireland cannot be underestimated by any means, especially given their recent victories over the likes of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the T20 format.
