The first Indian to feature in the SA20 is Dinesh Karthik, who declared his retirement from international cricket last year. The former RCB wicketkeeper is now going to represent Paar Royals in the third season of SA20 league.

The brand ambassador of the Paar Royals, AB de Villiers, was somewhat excited about the involvement of Dinesh Karthik, and stated that is will increase the awareness of the tournament.

“I would love to see more Indian players involved. We know Dinesh Karthik will be here this year, which is fantastic, and it’s great for the tournament. Hopefully, the BCCI will allow us to get more Indian players in the future to come and join the fun of SA20,” AB de Villiers said during a media interaction.

Active Indian players are normally prohibited by the BCCI to play in foreign leagues. Though women are given the allowance to play in English and Australian cricket leagues, senior men have strict regulations. A number of veterans have started to retire earlier then expected in order to have their chance in foreign leagues.

Former India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik noticed Rohit’s batting struggles and stepped up with an advice for the skipper who has been struggling to score any big number for the team in the longest format.

During his analysis n Cricbuzz, Dinesh connected Rohit’s struggles to a lack of confidence, which has caused issues in his batting. He has suggested Rohit will be disappointed with his recent performance, and will have to address these technical issues to gain his old form.

“I think Rohit will be very disappointed in himself. Even today you could see that he played slightly in front. With Rohit, he has never been someone who lunges forward for the ball but what he does do is play almost close to his front pad. But here you can see that he has gone ahead and what does that tell you? That his form is not as good as he would like it to be. now one thing that he has done well is that attack himself out of pressure in all formats. We all clapped that attacking cricket, especially in white-ball where he was a pioneer of this approach,” Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Karthik also advised Rohit to change his focus from aggressive style and make building long innings his first priority. He wants Rohit to keep his stay on the innings for long and play patiently. With more than a decade and a half of playing international cricket, Dinesh believes Rohit to be having the ability to overcome his struggle of batting.

“I think it is time for him to show the other way around, to guts it out. Make sure that he is there, avoid shots that is going to be dangerous on that pitch and back his technique. Rohit Sharma has played a decade and a half of international cricket (17 years), if you are telling that his technique is not water-tight, I will be very surprised. He has got areas that he is vulnerable in, but everybody has that, he needs to guts it out, fight it out. I am not sure if he believes in it right now, but that could be his confidence. But if he puts his mind to it, this question can be answered. Because what India needs, is a mentally tough Rohit Sharma,” Karthik concluded.

Coming to match, India managed to avoid the follow-on all because of an important 39-run partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep. Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul also made significant contributions to the team total. Indian innings ended at 260, as they got bowled out in the starting phase of Day 5. Both the teams are yet to bat their second innings as of now.

Hazlewood, who was last part of the RCB squad in 2021, will once again the leading the pacers in the upcoming IPL season. After securing his services, RCB’s batting coach Dinesh Karthik acknowledged the importance of Hazlewood to the team.

“Everybody from RCB and and all the fans have all said let’s go for Josh Hazlewood and here we have him. Josh Hazlewood, it was all about who can we get and we got Josh Hazlewood. I think all Bengaluru should be smiling at that option because we have seen what he can do in the year that he came, we qualified and he was such a major and integral part of that attack,” Karthik said.

RCB’s other buys of the first day included England all-rounder Liam Livingstone for INR 8.75 crore, young Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma for INR 11 crore and explosive England batter Phil Salt for INR 11.5 crore. Karthik was excited about signing Jitesh and Salt for their explosive batting styles.

”He (Jitesh) is a very explosive middle -order batsman. We wanted someone who is on the fringes of the Indian team and he is right there. We have seen what he can do in the IPL. Has got areas that he can hit and RCB being a ground where you can play spin well, he comes as a very, very good option,” Karthik said about Jitesh.

“Phil Salt, what have I got to say? He is explosive. He is someone who can take on in the power play. Great attitude. Nice guy to have around in the team. Everything about him says he is the kind of guy that RCB would love to have,” Karthik said about Salt.

RCB also made an investment in youth by securing Rasikh Salam Dar, the promising fast bowler from Jammu & Kashmir, for INR 6 crore. The final acquisition of the day came in the form of young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma, bought for INR 2.6 crore.

Rohit’s former teammate Dinesh Karthik believes that he needs to get out of his comfort zone and hold back playing big shots in Test cricket.

With India chasing the target of 147 in the final innings of the 3rd Test, Rohit lost his wicket to Kiwi pacer Matt Henry while trying to play his signature pull shot. Karthik stated that while Rohit’s aggressive batting approach has got him great results in white ball cricket, he may need to change his approach in red-ball cricket.

“In Test cricket, what I feel is that intent is getting him into a safe space where he feels he can use that when in trouble. It’s not a method where he’s using it like he’s using it in white ball cricket, one that the Indian team needed. Here, when he is put under a little bit of pressure, an immediate instinct is to play an attacking shot fraught with risk. Now, with that comes the ability to get out as well,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

The former Indian cricketer also suggested that Rohit should opt for a more balanced technique where he doesn’t lunge out to play attacking shots.

“The one thing that Rohit Sharma is not doing, which he did very well when he took up his role as an opener, is trusting his technique. He went to England, he left a lot of balls. He decided that he can play shots. But what he’d do is, anything outside the off-stump, he would let it go. ‘I am going to have the mental strength to bat long.’ He got a 100. He got a 90. I think that’s where he needs to go back to. To trust his ability to defend and see through tough phases,” Karthik said.

The Abu Dhabi T10 League 2024 will be conducted from November 21 to December 2 and will not be clashing with any of the other high-profile tournaments like the Big Bash League (BBL), SA20, and ILT20. 

New York Strikers are the defending champions and they also have a star-studded lineup which includes the likes of Sunil Narine, Matheesha Pathirana and Kieron Pollard among others.

Some more well-known players who will be featuring the tournament include Nicholas Pooran, Wanindu Hasaranga, Andre Russell, Jonny Bairstow and many more.

Now Indian all-rounder Axar Patel shared one such instance involving pacer Mohammed Siraj, which left fans on social media and former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik in splits.

While the Indian players were celebrating after beating South Africa in the final, Axar revealed that Siraj faced a different problem.

Siraj told everyone, ‘Arre DK bhai ne mera English mei interview le liya. Itne saare log hain, sabko English aati hai. Hum dono ko hi kyu pakda English ke liye, pata nahi’ (Dinesh Karthik took our interview in English; all others know English, then why did he catch hold of us I don’t know),” Axar revealed at ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’.

When further asked by Kapil if he did give the interview in English, Axar revealed that he still doesn’t remember what he exactly told Karthik during the interaction.

“Haan diya na, mujhe hi nahi pata mai kya bola. Siraj to aadha interview chhod ke bhaag gaya, bola ‘meri jitni English thi khatam ho gayi hai’ (yes, we did; but even I don’t know what I said; Siraj left the interview in between saying that his English vocabulary finished),” Axar said.

“When you play against some really talented players and you take a look at the names in this tournament… You were at the top of your game back then, playing cricket for the international team.

“You lose these opportunities to perform in front of appreciative audiences and have that experience when you retire from music. It does make you realize how fortunate you were to play professional cricket for such a long time,” he continued.

He remarked, “But I felt good and was tired too because I played matches after 4-5 months, which is pretty normal.”

After playing his last international match ten years ago, Abdur Razzak of Bangladesh has been focusing on giving it his all while simultaneously watching the national team’s tour.

“I work as a selector, which is a challenging job that I do full-time,” he remarked.

“There is a lot of people and an amazing atmosphere that they create, so the feelings and atmosphere are pretty similar,” he continued.

“Have to say Travis Head is right in front of the pack. Yashasvi Jaiswal has batted really well; he hasn’t got too much of an opportunity in ODI cricket, so Travis Head at this moment I would say,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
