The pacer expressed his views and said that Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are the big wickets that he wants at all costs. He said “No matter what happens, I just need to take your wicket! Only [Virat] Kohli and you are the exceptions right now. [Kane] Williamson was saved from slip twice. But I have these 3-4 players in my mind.”

Everyone burst into a peal of laughter and Babar replied by saying he has already dismissed him in the nets during practice sessions. He said “But you already got me in practice sessions. Why don’t you consider those?”

Haris replied by saying “Nah. I need your wicket in the match,” which again started a series of laughter. Babar concluded the conversation by saying “May Allah does well with all.”

Lahore Qalandars defeated Peshawar Zalmi in a high-octane match by 40 runs. Qalandars put together their highest score of 241 runs on board with the help of Fakhar Zaman(96) and Abdulla Shafique(75). Sami Billings played a blazing cameo of unbeaten 47 of 23 balls.

Peshawar Zalmi at one point looked like might chase it but constant blows from Qalandars restricted them to 201 runs. Tom Kohler-Cadmore (55 off 23) and Saim Ayub (51 off 34) did give the team some hope but Shaheen Afridi’s fifer turned out to be the real highlight.

Peshawar Zalmi bagged a crucial victory as they played Lahore Qalandars in Match 16 of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 on Friday. Zalmi put up a decent target of 167 runs for Qalandars to chase. Chasing the runs, batting-heavy Qalandars failed badly as the top order was sent back for almost no contribution. Their innings ended with 149 for 9 on the board which handed Zalmi a 17-run victory. This will help the team climb up the table and keep their chances of qualifying for the play-offs alive. Winning the toss, Zalmi elected to bat. They lost a couple of quick and crucial wickets as Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Hafeez departed early. Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog post for the Match No. 16 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017. I am Paulami Chakraborty and I will bring to you the live updates from the match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Lahore Qalandars are currently at No. 2 of the points table while Peshawar Zalmis are second from the bottom of the table. Though Qalandars are the favourites for the match, Zalmi are not very far behind and with this match, they will try to keep their chances of making it to the qualifiers alive.

Qalandars have won three of the six matches they have played so far. Their last was against Islamabad United, a match they won by one wicket. Islamabad put up a total of 145 for 8 at the end of their innings. Aamer Yamin and Yasir Shah were the two most successful bowlers for Qalandars in the match. Chasing the target, Umar Akmal was the star, scoring 66 off 42 runs. He hit 8 fours and 3 sixes in the process. It was Grant Elliott’s special 26 off 17 towards the end that won them the match.

Zalmi played their last against Karachi Kings and lost it by 9 runs. Batting first, Karachi Kings put up a big 174 for 4 in 20 overs. Shakib Al Hasan and Iftikhar Ahmed were the successful bowlers but the rest gave away too many runs. The chase was not a successful  one as despite Shahid Afridi’s 28-ball 54, Zalmi lost the match.

So far in the tournament, McCullum’s Qalandars are at No. 2 spot in the points table, with 3 wins from 6 games. Sammy’s Zalmi, on the other hand, are at the fourth spot in the five-team league with 2 wins from 6 games. However, with only a couple of points separating all the five teams, the tournament is evenly poised at the moment.

Yasir Shah’s staggering figures of 4 for 7 went in vain as Peshawar Zalmi defeated Lahore Qalandars by 3 wickets in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Chasing a paltry target of 60, the Zalmi’s kept losing wickets at regular intervals. It was Eoin Morgan’s 23 off 26 deliveries that inched his side to victory which looked very much unlikely at one point. Yasir rattled through the top and middle order of the Zalmi’s to pull the match back in the Qalandar’s court, but as the Qalandars had very less runs put on board, his efforts proved futile in the end.

This game proved to be a low-scoring high-voltage thriller. It was expected that the Zalmi’s would easily get past the target of 60 runs. But the Brendon McCullum-led Qalandars had different ideas. It was McCullum’s shrewd captaincy that he induced spinners Sunil Narine and Yasir early in the game.

Sohail Tanvir drew the first blood to remove Dawid Malan (1) and 2 deliveries later Narine got the wicket of Mohammad Hafeez (3). It became very evident from Hafeez’s wicket that the pitch had a lot to offer especially to spinners along with enough bounce to cause problems for the oncoming batsmen. The Zalmi had scored just 4 runs on the board when they lost both their openers.

But Morgan handled the pressure very well and avoided playing big shots. He brought all his international level of experience in play and kept on taking singles whenever any opportunity arose. It appeared like Morgan could take his team to safety with wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal at the other end. But Akmal (3) faced issues to even lay his bat on the ball and finally departed putting his team in jeopardy.

This was the time when Yasir unleashed himself and attacked the batsmen and bowled some unplayable deliveries. Shahid Afridi (13) tried to clear the ground with some big shots but he perished trying to hit Narine over the boundary fence. Sooner Yasir struck again and removed Sohaib Maqsood (0) and Morgan in a matter of 3 deliveries which changed the dimension of the game completely and if this was not enough he got the wicket of Darren Sammy (3). It appeared like the Qalandars were on the brink of pulling away a historic win but some sensible batting from tail-ender Chris Jordan (3*) and Wahab Riaz (5*) saw the Zalmi’s crossing the winning border in 17 overs.

Earlier in the first innings, Sammy asked the Qalandars to bat and his bowlers responded to his call quickly to get wickets from the very first over. McCullum (0), Jason Roy (9), Umar Akmal (0) Grant Elliott (0) departed in no time putting their team in a precarious situation. It was Fakhar Zaman’s 33 off 19 deliveries that pushed the Qalandars past the 50-run mark. For the Qalandar’s only two batsmen i.e Zaman and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan (11) scored in double digits.

The Zalmi bowlers performed collectively to restrict their opposition to 59. Hasan Ali took 3 wickets while Chris Jordan took 2. Apart from these two, Mohammad Asghar, Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz took 1 wicket each. Now having 3 games out of 2, the Peshawar Zalmi’s have surged to the top of the points table while the Lahore Qalandars are at No. 3 position behind Quetta Gladiators.

Peshawar Zalmi face Lahore Qalandars in Match 6 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Both teams have played 2 games each in this season so far. Peshawar Zalmi lost their opening game against former champions Islamabad United but came back hard to defeat Karachi Kings. Lahore Qalandars too had a similar start to the tournament as they lost the opening game against Quetta Gladiators but went on to put a strong performance to defeat Islamabad United in the second game. Both teams having won their last encounter will hope to emerge victorious in Sunday’s game to carry on with the winning momentum and topple either of them in the points table.

The Darren Sammy-led Peshawar Zalmi had to face an unexpected defeat against the Misbah-ul-Haq-led defending champions Islamabad United by 7 wickets in the opening game. Batting first Zalmi’s posted 190 riding on wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal’s 88. Despite this, their bowlers failed to keep the United batsmen under check, in particular, Brad Haddin whose innings of 73 from just 39 deliveries turned the game in his team’s favour.

Nonetheless, they bounced back hard by defeating Karachi Kings in their second fixture. In the second game, Zalmi’s bowling department rattled through the star-studded Karachi Kings to restrict them to a low total which their batsmen chased down comfortably.

On the other hand, Qalandar batsmen had to undergo a defeat against Quetta Gladiators after they failed to chase 137. In the first game, none of their batsmen could even cross the 30-run mark. But Qalandar opener Jason Roy (60) went all guns blazing in their second game to chase 159. Despite having secured victory in the second game, Qalandar skipper Brendon McCullum will be worried about the dismal form of their batsmen.

In addition to this, Qalandar pacer Mohammad Irfan has been excluded from the squad as he is under investigation of spot-fixing which can increase the woes of bowling options in the forthcoming games.
