India cricketer Sarfaraz Khan’s father Naushad Khan shared a video where he warned aspiring cricketers to not to be a part of scam which is going on social media over his name. Naushad is a Mumbai based cricket coach whose both sons Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan featured in Indian Test team and Under-19 World Cup team respectively.

Musheer Khan impressed everyone with his batting performance in the recently concluded Under-19 World Cup where he scored 360 runs in seven matches and on the other hand, Sarfaraz slammed played two Test matches against England where he scored 144 runs with a best score of 68*.

After Sarfaraz and Musheer’s impressive performance there are many scammers who are using their dad Naushad Khan’s name to scam aspiring cricketers by asking them for money for international selection.

Musheer Shared a clip, where he warned young cricketers to stay safe from this scam and work hard for their selection in Indian Cricket Team. Here is the video:

“Good morning friends, once again I have come in front of you because in my name, in the name of Naushad Khan. Many people have created fake IDs on Facebook and Instagram. And they are asking for money from kids for the sake of IPL and the net bowler, or from the academy or from the state team for the sake of selection. I urge you to not get involved in this. Trust your hard work. I am not currently connected with any IPL team of this time. I am not going to coach right now. So, thank you very much for not getting involved in this” said Naushad in a video.

Earlier, Naushad was spotted in Rajkot’s Niranjan Shah Stadium before the start of the third Test between India vs England third Test when Right-handed batter Sarfaraz Khan received his Test cap legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble.

As Kumble presented Sarfaraz with his Test cap at Rajkot, his father-cum-coach Naushad Khan was left emotional on seeing the scenes unfolding in front of his eyes. Visuals then showed Sarfaraz running with his Test cap across the boundary rope to show it to his father and wife, who watched the proceedings from the sidelines.

INDIA’s Jemima Rodrigues on Monday urged the men’s team to aim for the gold after the women’s team created history in the final of the Asian Games.

India Women’s side beat Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final to clinch the gold medal here on their maiden appearance.

Batting first, India posted 116 for seven on a difficult batting track before the Titas Sadhu-led bowling attack restricted Sri Lanka to 97 for eight in 20 overs.

“We have spoken to the men’s team. We have told them that we are bringing the gold; you guys also bring it,” an elated Rodrigues told reporters here.

“(It) feels great. Just to win the gold is special, and being the first Indian cricket side to win the gold will make people go back in history and see that this was the team that actually won the first-ever gold in cricket in the Asian Games. It’s an amazing feeling,” she added.

Rodrigues said it was a proud feeling to add to India’s medals tally at the Games.

“It is a very different experience, wearing this India jersey is a (matter of) different pride. Also, we can add a medal to India as a sporting nation,” she said.

Talking about the gold medal contest on a challenging surface, Rodrigues said the contest had its own challenges.

“It wasn’t easy as Sri Lanka gave us a good fight. Their bowlers bowled spot-on, and we really had to apply ourselves. Very proud of the girls, and the way we played today displays our character,” she said.

“It was an important partnership between me and Smriti (Mandhana) because the Sri Lankan bowlers were at the top of their game.

“We are glad the way we played and built the partnership, along with the other girls coming in and chipping in,” said Rodrigues (42), who added 73 runs with Mandhana (46) for the second wicket in a low-scoring contest.

Rodrigues said the team had to adapt to different surfaces for every match. “We honestly did not know what to expect when we came over here,” she said.

“We knew that we had to be ready for any condition, and in all three matches we had different kinds of wickets that we had to adapt to, which is the best part of our team’s performance,” Rodrigues added.

“It’s been a great experience in general, the way everyone has welcomed us in China.”.

“It’s not been easy since the communication has been a problem. But, they (the organisers) went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and make our stay easy,” she added.

India coach and former international Hrishikesh Kanitkar too was delighted to have added to the country’s tally.

“We rank this gold right up there because it adds to the country’s tally of gold medals. So, I think it’s very, very important that we directly contribute to the country,” he said.

Kanitkar termed India’s total as a ‘decent score’ owing to conditions.

“We were aiming for 120, but reaching it a couple of overs early would have surely allowed us to go for 140… the nature of the soil and conditions matter. But, we ended up with a decent score,” he said.

“The girls responded very well. We are always open to improving, and even though we have won the gold, we are open to improving more.”.

Despite being outplayed, the Indian coach credited Sri Lanka for their display. “They (Lankans) bowled really well, but I feel our batters batted well in the starting and the middle phases. But, credit to them (Lanka) for how they played this game.”.

Kanitkar also praised Rodrigues for her intent during the game. “(It was an) ultimate knock. Not so much of big-hitting, but using the mind, and I think that’s very mature,” he said

The post Travis Head Ruled Out For First Half Of World Cup, Marnus Labuschagne Back In Frame appeared first on Cricket Country.

Travis Head will miss the first half of the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, Australia coach Andrew McDonald said after their 2-3 series defeat against South Africa.

Head fractured his left hand when he was struck on the hand by a rising delivery by Proteas paceman Gerald Coetzee while batting in Australia’s run chase in the fourth ODI on Friday.

McDonald revealed that Head will not require surgery after fracturing a joint on his left hand during the fourth ODI in Pretoria. However, it is uncertain if the opener will be able to participate in the upcoming 50-over event in India as he needs over a month to recover.

“The timeframe is still a bit loose at the moment but the good news is he doesn’t require surgery as it sits at the moment. There will be an extended period of time out and we’ve just got to weigh up whether that time (out) falls with an option to carry him through the front half of the World Cup.

“There’s no doubt he won’t be available for the front half, so that’s a decision we’ll have to make for the final 15(-player squad). But I can’t give you an exact time frame,” McDonald was quoted by Cricket.com.au website.

Head’s injury has opened doors for Marnus Labuschagne, who has surged back into favour after finishing as the South Africa series’ leading run-scorer with 283 at an average of 70.75.

“I can’t talk on behalf of the selection panel and lock him away in the World Cup 15 but it’s no doubt looking likely,” McDonald said of Labuschagne’s World Cup hopes.

“He’s made a significant shift in his intent at the crease and putting the bowlers under pressure (more) than he was potentially 12 months ago. He’s struck at around 100 strike-rate in this series.

“We know Marnus is a quality player and he probably didn’t have the 12-18 months in one-day cricket that he would have liked. But he’s no doubt taken that opportunity with both hands and there’s no doubt he’ll be front and centre when it comes to that 15-man squad down the track,” said McDonald.

Australia suffered two more injuries during the fifth and final ODI at Wanderers ground, with pacers Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott picking up fresh injuries.

Ellis suffered an adductor strain and was unable to finish his spell after sending down eight overs and is set to be assessed further.

Abbott split the webbing on a finger while fielding and required stitches, but was able to complete his spell and McDonald suggested he should be right to face India in the upcoming series.

Aaron Hardie will travel from South Africa to India with the ODI squad as cover for the pair.

Teams can make changes to their World Cup squads right up until the September 28 deadline.

KL Rahul was initially not slated to be in India’s playing eleven for their Asia Cup Super Four match against Pakistan, till a back spasm to Shreyas Iyer made him a last-minute addition.

It gave Rahul his first international game since March, and after undergoing surgery plus rehabilitation for a right thigh injury sustained in IPL 2023. In a rain-marred match which India won by 228 runs, Rahul struck an unbeaten 111, placing his shots well and attacking against spinners, followed by keeping wickets for the entire game.

Against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Rahul made 39 off 44 balls before becoming one of Dunith Wellalage’s five victims via a caught-and-bowled dismissal. He would then take a catch and effect a stumping as India won by 41 runs to end Sri Lanka’s winning streak of 13 games.

Now reflecting on his stunning comeback to international cricket, Rahul credited his preparation in last three to four months for the strong showing with bat and gloves, after initially not being in the frame to be in the eleven.

“I didn’t get so much time to think about anything because it was so last moment. But I trusted my preparation in the last three or four months. I came to Sri Lanka thinking that I would start in the playing eleven, and that’s how I was preparing for it. I was confident that I can still go there and do the job,” he said in the post-match press conference.

Asked about what he felt while batting, Rahul said, “When I played the first few balls, I was nervy and tried to figure out what are the shots I could play on this pitch and accordingly diffuse the pressure.

“It was different against Pakistan because the ground allowed us to play more shots and see what suits as per the match. But in this match (against Sri Lanka), I am happy that the shots I chose to play till I got out were good.”

Rahul also revealed that he worked hard on his wicketkeeping at the NCA in Bengaluru, having been majorly donning the role since 2020. “Bahut saal ho gaya abhi (it’s been many years now in wicketkeeping). I have been keeping for a while and since then Rishabh (Pant) was concussed against Australia in 2019 (January 2020), so it’s not something new. I have been told by the team management that this would be my role in the team.

“When I was at NCA, during my recovery, I worked on my keeping with the coaches there. Earlier, I was mostly batting, but this time, I did spend a lot of my time on keeping too. Hopefully I can do both the roles well.”

In the last two matches, left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has picked a fifer and four-wicket haul. Rahul was pleased to see Kuldeep perform brilliantly and be the standout bowler for the team.

“Kuldeep has bowled really well, especially in the last two matches. I am really enjoying keeping to him. I am really enjoying watching him bowling and I can see that he has developed a few new tricks in last year or so that are honestly giving some results to him, so much that I haven’t been able to pick it under lights.”

“We keep talking between the overs about the strategy to be adopted to get a batter out or how to keep a set batter away from the strike. His rhythm has also been good in the last two matches and it’s all upto him on executing those strategies.”

In 11 matches against Pakistan, he has scored 293 runs at an average of 41.85 in nine innings at a strike rate of over 130.

As India takes the field against arch-rivals Pakistan in their Super Four stage of the Asia Cup for a Sunday blockbuster, all eyes will be on Hardik Pandya, who has, over the years, established himself as a premier all-rounder in limited overs cricket while demonstrating the ability and confidence to do well against big opponents at big stages.

The traditional rivals will go at each other in what promises to be an enthralling Super Four clash in Colombo on Sunday.

Hardik loves playing against Pakistan and the numbers prove it. In five ODIs against Pakistan, he has scored 209 runs at an average of 69.66 and a strike rate of over 132. He has two half-centuries against the Men in Green, with the best score of 87. He also has five wickets against Pakistan in ODIs at an average of 32.80 and best bowling figures of 2/43.

His overall white-ball numbers against Pakistan are just as good as ODIs. In 11 matches against Pakistan, Pandya has scored 293 runs at an average of 41.85 in nine innings at a strike rate of over 130. He has slammed two half-centuries against Pakistan, with the best score of 87. In these 11 matches, he has taken 16 wickets at an average of 18.50, with the best bowling figures of 3/8.

Some of Pandya’s most spectacular career performances have come against Pakistan. Here is a look at some of these:

-76 off 43 balls (with four boundaries and six sixes) against Pakistan during a chase of 339 runs in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which India lost.

-3/8 in Asia Cup 2016 that helped bundle out Pakistan for just 84 runs.

-All-round performance of 33* in 17 balls, consisting of four boundaries and six, 3/25 in Asia Cup 2022

-40 off 37 balls, with one four and two sixes and 3/30 in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Pandya had a match-winning century stand with Virat Kohli after India sunk to 31/4 in a 160-run chase.

Pandya is India’s man for the big stages and big opponents and has a history of fine performances against some of India’s biggest rivals, not only Pakistan but also South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia, which collectively form the SENA nations, the countries against which India has a historically weak record.

-Against Australia: In 12 ODIs against Australia, he has scored 546 runs at an average of 54.60, with four half-centuries in 11 innings and a best score of 92. He has also taken 11 wickets in these 12 matches, with the best figures of 3/44.

In 24 matches against them overall, he has scored 754 runs at an average of 53.85, with five half-centuries in 18 innings and a strike rate of over 122. He has also taken 17 wickets against Australia in 24 matches, with the best figures of 3/44.

-Against England: He has played 13 ODIs against England, scoring 402 runs at an average of 44.66, with three fifties in 11 innings and best score of 71. He has taken 12 wickets against England, with the best figures of 4/24.

Overall, he has played 33 matches against England, scoring 845 runs at an average of 33.80 and SR of 104.83, with six fifties in 31 innings. He has also taken 36 wickets against England across all formats, with the best performance of 6/50.

His records against South Africa and New Zealand are a little average compared to stats against Australia, Pakistan and England, but still decent for an all-rounder who often serves as a hard-hitting finisher.

-Against New Zealand: He has played 14 ODIs against New Zealand, scoring 274 runs in 10 innings, with the best score of 54 and one fifty. He has taken 15 wickets in these 14 matches, with the best figures of 3/31.

Overall, across all formats, he has scored 447 runs against NZ at an average of 23.52 in 27 matches, with one half-century and an SR of above 104. He has also taken 24 wickets against the Kiwis, with the best figures of 4/16.

-Against South Africa: His performances against South Africa, a mere 41 runs in five innings with the best of 15* and five wickets, with the best figures of 2/30 serve as a tiny blip on his resume as an absolute clutch player.

Overall in 22 matches against the Proteas, he has scored 327 runs at an average of 23.35, with one half-century in 19 innings and the best score of 93. He has also taken 14 wickets against South Africa, with the best figures of 3/80.

In the 2020s, Pandya made significant changes to his batting technique. Serving as the captain of IPL-winning Gujarat Titans has helped him retain the intensity he had as a finisher, but also, gain new maturity and composure similar to an anchor player. He still shows flashes of the big-hitting, free-flowing Pandya of old but has brought an element of reliability and hunger to his game.

Since 2020, he has scored 796 runs in 25 ODI matches and 21 innings at an average of 41.89, with seven half-centuries and best score of 92. He has also taken 20 wickets in these matches, with the best figures of 4/24.

In 52 T20I matches and 46 innings since 2020, Pandya has scored 1,038 runs at an average of 30.52, with three half-centuries. He has also taken 35 wickets, with the best figures of 4/16.

Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad said that BCCI needs to do far better than they have done so far for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to start from October 5. The mariquee event will be hosted by India.

Prasad also reckoned that the Indian team are strong contender of the tournament and fan base will play a crucial role in their journey.

He urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure that the experience of the fans should be easy and smooth in comparison to previous years.

“We have a good team and are strong contenders for the World Cup but we need genuine fans inside the stadium cheering for the team and their experience needs to be far smoother and easier than what it has been, and for that the BCCI needs to do far better than they have done so far. It is a reflection of the country as a whole and we as a nation should not be let down at any cost,” Prasad posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier on Saturday, he lambasted the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) decision to have a reserve day only for the match between India and Pakistan in the Super four stage of the Asia Cup 2023.

The former Indian bowler slammed ACC’s decision and said it is unethical to have different rules for two teams.

“If true this is absolute shamelessness. The organisers have made a mockery and it is unethical to have a tournament with rules being different for the other two teams. In the name of justice, will only be fair if it is abandoned the first day, may it rain harder on the second day and these malicious plans not succeed,” Venkatesh wrote on X on Friday.

ACC on Friday announced a reserve day for the match between India and Pakistan which is scheduled to take place on September 10 at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. If adverse weather suspends play during the India and Pakistan game, the match will continue on September 11 from the point it was suspended.
