Rameez Raja believes Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should follow the footsteps of BCCI and appoint someone like Rahul Dravid for grooming Under-19 cricketers. The forthcoming U-19 World Cup will commence from January 13 in New Zealand. Pakistan are placed in Group D alongside Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Ireland. Rameez backed the appointment of a reputed figure and cricketing icon like Dravid in grooming young cricketers ahead of a gruelling international career. Dravid has been serving as India A and U-19 coach since 2015. Under his tenure, India had finished runners-up in the last U-19 World Cup, losing to West Indies in the final.

Rameez stated: “I think the PCB should also consider appointing a former Test player who is well reputed and respected with the national junior team just like India has done in the case of Rahul Dravid. I don’t think winning is as important as recognising individuals who are talented and then educating and grooming them. India will benefit from the presence of someone like Dravid who is a role model for youngsters. Pakistan should also think on these lines because at the under-16 and 19 levels identifying individuals who can be good investments for the future is very important.”
