Out-of-favour India batter Prithvi Shaw’s career has been going through a downward spiral. Recently, the 25-year-old was not included in Mumbai’s squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, following a mediocre display in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Following the average performances, Shaw’s fitness and discipline have been put under the scanner.

Now, Shaw has been asked to play in the Police Shield Invitational Tournament. He will lead the Mumbai Colts team. The competition involves 2-day matches at various venues around Mumbai.

Recently, a MCA official talked about Shaw’s disciplinary and fitness issues. This statement came after Shaw wasn’t able to impress in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The batter did not even reach the 200-run mark in the entire tournament, and his only substantial knock came during the quarter-final against Vidarbha.

“In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely be able to get to it,” a MCA official told PTI.

“Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players,” the official added.

Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer also believes that Shaw needs to get his work ethics right and if he can do so, then sky will be the limit for him.

“He needs to get his work ethics right, if he does, the sky’s the limit for him. We cannot babysit anyone. At the end of the day, it’s his responsibility to figure out things for himself,” Iyer said after Mumbai’s triumph in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

India batter Prithvi Shaw wasn’t able to find a spot in Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This comes after the batter had a pretty average run for the side in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shaw also wasn’t able to find any buyers in the IPL mega auction held in November.

The current events prompted Prithvi to post an emotional message on social media saying, “what more do I have to see?”. “Tell me God, what more do I have to see? If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126 (in Vijay Hazare), I’m not good enough. But I will keep my faith in you and, hopefully, people still believe in me, because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram,” Shaw wrote in his Instagram story.

However, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has now revealed the reason behind dropping Shaw from the side for the upcoming domestic tournament. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the concerns about his fitness played a major role in the decision.

“The fitness concern is there, but the performance is also not there currently. He needs to work on his fitness, discipline, and performance. The main issue is the fitness. You see the matches. You get the image, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for everyone to see,” a source within MCA told the paper.

“We hope he works on these issues and makes a strong comeback. We all know his talent. It is just about him putting in the hard yards,” the source added.

Indian batter Prithvi Shaw was named in Mumbai’s list of 28 probables for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is scheduled to be held from November 23 to December 15.

India’s premier domestic T20 competition will end up dividing the Ranji Trophy into two halves along with the 50-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy this season.

Shaw’s inclusion in the list of 28 players comes after the batter was earlier dropped from Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji Trophy.

The 25-year-old, who has featured in 5 Tests, 6 ODIs and a T20I for India since making his international debut 6 years ago, was dropped from the Mumbai squad for their away Ranji Trophy clash against Tripura due to fitness and disciplinary matters.

“You have to look at his fitness and his running when he is on the field. The MCA has a rich history and there cannot be exceptions for a certain player,” a Mumbai Cricket Association official told PTI.

The probables list also features India and Mumbai’s in-form batter Shreyas Iyer, who is trying hard to force his name back into the national team with scores of 142 and 233 in his last 2 outings in Ranji Trophy.

Among those included are comeback man Siddhesh Lad, who made 169 in his last outing and all-rounder Shams Mulani, who ended his barren run with the ball to take 6/115 and 5/71 in Mumbai’s massive win against Odisha.

A huge blow was recently delivered to Prithvi Shaw’s cricket career as Mumbai dropped him from their Ranji Trophy squad. Though an exact reason wasn’t provided for his exclusion from the squad, it has been reported that the coaches were extremely unhappy with his attitude towards fitness and discipline.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selection committee has reportedly decided to leave out Shaw at least for one Ranji Trophy game. As per Cricbuzz, Prithvi’s discipline had become a huge headache for the coaches. The selectors and the team management are looking to teach Shaw a lesson by dropping him from the squad.

The report also claimed that he doesn’t take net sessions seriously and is also irregular. Many also consider him overweight, which also shows lack of discipline towards the profession he is in.

The report further added that not just the team management and selectors, but also the captain and the coach of the Mumbai team were keen to drop him from the squad.

However, it doesn’t look like Prithvi is ready to learn his lesson yet, as after his exclusion from the squad, the opening batter took to Instagram and wrote a sarcastic post stating, “Need a break thx,” and added a smiling emoji as well.

The 24-year-old’s post came a few hours before the earliest reports emerged of him being dropped from Mumbai’s team.

The Mumbai Cricket Association has announced that the ticket prices for the third Test of the India vs. New Zealand series, which is scheduled to take place here from November 1–5, would stay the same as they were previously.

The last Test match between India and New Zealand was place at the Wankhede Stadium in 2021. The hosts prevailed 372 runs to the Kiwis’ spinner Ajaz Patel, who made Test cricket history by being the third bowler to take all ten wickets in an innings.

According to reports, ticket prices for the Test three years ago were increased by 25% over the rates for the match played here in 2016. This means that a daily ticket now costs Rs 125 instead of Rs 100, and a five-day ticket costs Rs 375 instead of Rs 300.

During the Apex Council meeting, the MCA also resolved to hold a golden jubilee celebration on January 19, 2020, to mark the 50th anniversary of Wankhede Stadium, one of the most iconic cricket venues in the nation.

Among the other choices made at the meeting, the MCA decided to provide First-Class passes and travel reimbursements to all trainee players who were chosen for the off-season camp in the following categories: U-14, U-16, U-19 boys, and U-15, U-19, and U-23 senior women.

The MCA players will have access to a career expo that will include meet-and-greets with senior executives from a variety of corporate organizations and current and former Indian cricket players.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, “The main goal of this event will be to recruit cricket players, giving players with career opportunities both within and outside of cricket.”

In a similar vein, an equipment fair for MCA players and associated clubs is scheduled, offering a venue for the players to buy equipment directly from manufacturers at the “best possible price.”

“MCA Affiliated Office Clubs competing in the Times Shield and MCA Corporate Trophy will have their match day expenses covered by MCA,” he declared.

In addition to providing an air-conditioned enclosure for MCA club secretaries at the Vithal Divecha Pavilion at Wankhede Stadium, the governing body would also provide financial support to school and college clubs as well as associated workplace clubs.

The Dr. HD Kanga League awards ceremony is scheduled for October 25, according to Naik.

On Wednesday, Surendra Harmalkar defeated Deepan Mistry by a margin of ninety votes to secure a seat on the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Apex Council.

Mistry received 95 votes, while Harmalkar received 185, with one vote being deemed invalid.

Abhay Hadap, who was elected earlier this month, is now the secretary of the cricket governing body, and Harmalkar takes over from him in the Apex Council.

Sachin Tendulkar supported Suraj Samat, who was defeated by Hadap.

Since its president Amol Kale passed away in June, the MCA has held three elections in recent months.

Ajinkya Naik, a former secretary, defeated vice president Sanjay Naik in July to take the presidency.

According to a statement released by MCA president Ajinkya Naik, “the maidan, office, school, and college club secretaries have demonstrated their positive influence in securing this election win once again.”

“We are still dedicated to the expansion and improvement of Mumbai cricket, as this is our team’s third straight win. In this election, cricket players of both genders showed their support,” he continued.

In preparation for the Duleep Trophy which is set to commence from September 5, Suryakumar Yadav decided to take part in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament. He took the field in Coimbatore for the Mumbai Cricket Association against TNCA XI.

However, on Day 1 of the match on Tuesday, the India star was mobbed by fans, who almost entered the ground during the middle of the home team’s first innings.

During the first innings of the match, many fans thronged the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science ground in Coimbatore to watch the Indian T20I skipper in action and while he was fielding near the boundary ropes, spectators almost entered the ground for selfies as the India batter warned them not to.

However, Suryakumar later obliged for pictures and autographs after the ground security found it difficult to manage the crowd. In fact, towards the end of the day’s action, a group of school kids, who were present at the venue, ran inside the ground to get the batter’s autographs.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer will mark his return to domestic cricket by joining Mumbai for a single 4-day match in the upcoming Buchi Babu Invitational tournament. The tournament is set to be held across 4 venues in Tamil Nadu and it will commence on Thursday, August 15.

Iyer will be playing alongside India’s star batter, Suryakumar Yadav in the Mumbai side for their second-round clash against Jammu & Kashmir set to take place from August 27 to 30.

Iyer, who was denied of central contracts by the BCCI after he was unavailable to play in the Test team due to fitness issues, appeared for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, playing a key role in the side’s tournament win. He then also went on to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 title.

As Iyer prepares for his Mumbai comeback, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) chief Sanjay Patil stated that the middle-order batter is eager to play red-ball cricket.

“Shreyas showed keen interest in playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament. He is eager to play red-ball cricket. Though Shreyas and Surya will be playing only one match, it will be a strong message to other state teams that Test players are also keen to play for Mumbai,” Patil told mid-day.

At the age of 37, Ajinkya Naik becomes the Mumbai Cricket Association’s youngest president. Sanjay Naik, the candidate of Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar, has been defeated by Naik. In a lopsided poll on Tuesday, Ajunkya prevailed by 107 votes.

“It’s a win for Mumbai maidan and their club secretaries as I’m just one of them. I have been part of various committees for more than one decade. My journey has been one of a pyramid. The result came per my expectations,” Ajinkya said after the win.

Ajinkya received 221 votes, while Sanjay received 114, according to sources in the media.

The Mumbai Cricket Association has always had political support. Ajinkya was aided by “unseen powers,” much like Sanjay Naik, who was supported by Ashish Shelar, the head of the Mumbai BJP.

“There were a lot of unseen powers, and slowly you will come to know who they were . Our mentor is Sharad Pawar sir. We have been following him for long now,” he added.

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar turned his attention to the Ranji Trophy final, which is taking place between Mumbai and Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium. With Team India’s Test series against England coming to an end on Saturday, where the hosts won by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamsala to seal the five-match match 4-1, Tendulkar moved his focus to the competition. Ajinkya Rahane, the skipper, and Shreyas Iyer both put on another disastrous display during the home team’s middle-order collapse, leaving the batting great dissatisfied with Mumbai’s batting performance.

When Mumbai was given the chance to bat first, openers Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lalwani put up a solid 81-run partnership until Yash Thakur removed the latter and Harsh Dubey removed the former a few overs later, leaving the hosts at 89 for two in 22.2 overs. After that, Mumbai was four down for 99 runs before lunch. Rahane’s bad fortune continued when he was out for just seven off 35 in the second session of Day 1, and Umesh Yadav sent Iyer packing in yet another terrible display by the Indian batsman.

As a result, Mumbai’s middle order crumbled, going from 89 for two to 111 for six in 97 balls, allowing Vidarbha to get a solid hold of first innings. In his social media post, Sachin criticized Mumbai’s “ordinary batting” effort despite heaping admiration on the visiting bowlers for their comeback.

Shardul Thakur fought a solitary struggle against Vidarbha despite the collapse, leaving Mumbai at 202 for eight at Tea with his undefeated innings of 58.

Thakur attempted to rally Mumbai for the second time following his incredible century-plus innings in last week’s quarterfinal encounter against Tamil Nadu.
