During an interaction with Star Sports, when the Indian spinner was questioned to pick a player to watch out for in the India vs Sri Lanka group-stage match, she chose Richa.

“Richa Ghosh has always been my favourite player because whenever I have seen her bat, the way she bats, she is powerful, but you also need brains along with power and she has that,” Poonam said while speaking on Star Sports.

“She goes for big hits only when it’s required. Otherwise, she plays with singles and doubles. She is an expert in playing the cut shot. I want Richa Ghosh to perform splendidly,” Poonam added.

As India aims to win their first Women’s ICC event, Harmanpreet is going to lead the Women’s team going to take place from October 3 to October 20 in the grounds of United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Women In Blue are placed in Group A along with Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Harmanpreet will be creating history as soon as Indian women reach their venue, as she will be the first-ever Indian captain who will lead the team in four editions of Women’s T20 World Cup.

Following Shafali Verma’s explosive 81 off 48 balls with the bat and Deepti’s outstanding 3/13 with the ball, India thrashed Nepal 82 runs to advance to the semifinals on Tuesday.

In their 20 overs, India limited Nepal to a pitiful 98 for 9, having amassed 178 for 3 after batting first.

“From the first game we are pretty confident about each match and every situation and the condition as well. We are looking forward to semi-final as well,” Deepti told the media after the match.

She claimed that since the team’s June 2022 visit to the island nation, not much had changed in terms of the pitches’ characteristics or the surrounding environment.

“Nothing has changed, just keep it very simple and just focus for another match. I played here last time also and yeah, nothing changed,” she said.

“We are only backing ourselves and you know, conditions are really the same.”

With eight wickets in three matches, the right-arm off-spinner is leading the bowling stats. She attributed her success to her ability to bowl in every circumstance.

“I am always ready to bowl in any kind of situation. I like to take the challenges from the front. It’s nothing, just that I’m enjoying each and every match, plan accordingly and what we discussed in the meeting, I just apply myself,” she said.

“If we win the toss, it’s a positive approach from the upfront. As a batting unit also, we are doing really well from the game one and we finished also well,” she added.

“It is a great feeling. When Jemi and I were batting, we spoke that we had to run hard rather than just going for risky shots. Our focus was on getting 7-8 runs per over,” Kaur said after the match.

“When Richa came, I just told her to keep watching the ball and see how wicket is playing. She batted beautifully. My role was just to stay on the pitch and keep rotating strike. Whenever loose balls come, convert them to the boundary.”

India achieved their first-ever 200+ total in T20 cricket thanks to Ghosh’s 29-ball knock, even though Kaur performed the role of the anchor to perfection.

“Credit to Richa. Because of her we reached the target … today also we lost early wickets but we kept ourselves ready.”

After scoring a 29-ball, undefeated 64, Richa Ghosh—who was named the game’s MVP—praised Kaur for putting her in the middle of the field and stated she simply trusted herself to take advantage of the situation.

“Whenever I am playing with Harry [Harmanpreet] di, she tells me how the ball is coming on and how to play the shots. Whenever I get the opportunity, I want to back myself,” she said.

“The first four from a cover drive was my favourite.”

UAE skipper Esha Rohit Oza said it was a learning experience for her team.

“It was a great experience, lots of learnings. How to build an innings, that is something we saw first hand, and how to finish games. This is what we need to work on.

When we played against a team that size, we were never satisfied. We must confirm that we require ten wickets, not just three. Against a superior team, we performed better. We intend to apply the lessons learned in this game to our next one.”

“I am feeling really good as I could deliver as per the plan. I had the belief. As a unit, we are doing well for the last few months. The camps we have had helped a lot.

“I worked on my bowling after the South Africa series, so that helped. Nida Dar is a good batter, so her wicket was important,” she said.
