The captain of England Test team, Ben Stokes, jokingly called himself a ‘Bionic man’ after he made a recovery from hamstring injury. During England’s last game in New Zealand in 2024, Stokes faced an injury in his left hamstring ,which required a surgery.

Ben Stokes now went to his social media and posted an image of himself sitting at the back of a car, with pillow and braced leg. The all-rounder believes he will return to action soon enough.

Bionic Man for a while. Surgery done. In a bit….” Stokes captioned his Instagram post.

Stokes recovered to full fitness after a continuous recovery program, and he had played as an all-rounder in the series against New Zealand. However, he was not able to continue in the match as he came up with a problem mid-over due to high demand put on him.

The England team for Champions Trophy has already excluded Ben Stokes from their squad, but he has a chance to concentrate on rehabilitation and return to Tests since there are no matches scheduled for the country till May.

19-year-old Australia batter Sam Konstas made an impressive debut in red-ball cricket with the fourth Border-Gavaskar series Test which was held in Melbourne. Konstas slammed a brilliant half-century on debut and played some incredible shots to say the least.

The teenage batter also bumped into star India cricketer Virat Kohli during the first day of MCG Test and it resulted in a heated altercation between the duo. Following the incident, the crowd would get behind Konstas and he would get loud cheers when he came out to bat in Australia’s second innings as well.

However, Konstas crossed the line when he provoked and got into an altercation with India skipper Jasprit Bumrah during the Sydney Test. Konstas’ actions left Bumrah furious and it also led to the teenager getting criticized from many former cricketers.

Following Australia’s victory in the Sydney Test which also saw them win the Border-Gavaskar series by 3-1, Konstas opened up on the incident with Bumrah and admitted that it was his fault.

“Oh, I didn’t get too fazed. Unfortunately, Uzi got out. He was trying to buy some time a little bit. It was probably my fault, but it happens. It’s cricket. Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket, but obviously great performance from the team,” Konstas told Triple M.

Konstas also revealed why the Sydney Test was quite special as well as emotional for him. The 19-year-old recalled how his cousin succumed to leukaemia and his grandfather passed away after battling with bowel cancer.

“Obviously it’s a special event, the McGrath Foundation, and hopefully we spread more awareness for cancer, get the funds in, because I remember my cousin passed away with leukemia and my grandpa with bowel cancer. So obviously we hope we spread awareness and get the cure,” Konstas said.

Record-breaking crowds showed up in almost every Test of the Border-Gavaskar series which again showcased how big the rivalry between India and Australia has become. Following the conclusion of the 5-match series, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting stated that it’s hard to argue that the rivalry between the two teams isn’t the biggest in world cricket.

Attendance record for the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar series stood at 8,37,879 which is incredibly high. The figures left Ponting stunned and he said that it will be interesting to see the attendance for the Ashes which is set to be played next summer.

He added that if the numbers aren’t the same then the Border-Gavaskar trophy is undoubtedly bigger than the Ashes.

“I had a look at the numbers yesterday, it was something like 837,000 people came to watch the Test matches, which is unheard of here in Australia. So now that this series has happened, Australia have England coming out next summer so we’ll get a better idea then. If the numbers aren’t the same, then there’ll be no doubt that the (Border-Gavaskar) rivalry (is bigger), certainly from the fans’ point of view,” Ponting told ICC.

“There’s two separate parts to this: There’s what the fans want to see and the rivalry that they want to make of it, but it’s also how the players view the rivalry between the three teams now,” Ponting added.

Former India head coach and cricketer Ravi Shastri believes that spectators which attended the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar series, set the bar really high in the modern era.

“One stat stands out: 3,75,000 people coming through the gates in that Melbourne Test match, beating the record set 90 years ago of 3,50,000. (In) 1936/1937, when the ‘G’ could hold 120,000 people and when Bradman was playing. It just goes to show the sudden interest in the modern era. The bar has been raised. The bar has been raised big time,” Shastri said.

Former England cricketer James Foster praised Joe Root for his excellent performance in Test cricket. He also believes that Root has a high chance of surpassing Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar in Test cricket and become the leading run-scorer in the longest format od the game.

Root is completely in his form, especially in the longest format of the game. Considering his current form, fans and former cricketers are debating whether the England star will score more Test runs than Sachin. Root only needs 2,949 runs in order to reach the highest run-total of 15,921 runs in Test cricket.

Former England cricketers have wondered the longevity of Root’s career, and the possibility of surpassing Sachin’s immaculate career-total.
James Foster put emphasis on the possibility of Root surpassing Sachin, along with admitting to the fact that he has a high chance of posting himself as the leading run-scorer in the format.

Joe is a world-class player. Joe continues to keep evolving his game. He has played so much cricket, but he is still very hungry. He just loves it. Anyone with that ability and quality who still has the hunger to perform and play cricket. He has probably got a very good chance,” Foster told ANI.

Root recently appeared for England in the Test series against New Zealand. He scored 218 runs in the series, averaging at 43.60 in three matches. He ended the series and became the leading run-scorer against New Zealand.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday following the conclusion of India’s Test match against Australia in Brisbane, has broken silence on a massive comment made by his father, Ravichandran.

Ashwin decided to hang up his boots midway through the Border-Gavaskar series. In the post-match press conference of the Gabba Test, Ashwin announced that he will not be featuring for India in international cricket anymore.

His father Ravichandran on Thursday said ‘humiliation’ may be one of the reasons behind the sudden retirement. This statement came after Ashwin was only selected in 1 out of the 3 Tests played so far in Border-Gavaskar series.

“Definitely, there’s no doubt about it (being emotional for the family), because he was on the field almost for 14-15 years. The sudden changes and the retirement, it was a really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting that also because humiliation was going on. How long he can just tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own,” Ravichandran told News18.

“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation,” Ravichandran added.

Ashwin then took to social media and broke silence on the huge statement made by his dad. The former India spinner stated that his father isn’t media trained and asked everyone to forgive him.

1. 7/59 vs New Zealand, Indore, 2016

Ashwin absolutely bamboozled the Kiwi batting order in both the first and second innings. After a sensational batting display from India which saw them post a humongous total of 557 in their first innings, Ashwin would show his magic and take an impressive 6-wicket haul to restrict New Zealand to 299. India would then declare on 216/3 to set up a massive target of 475 for the Kiwis. Ashwin would once again assert his dominance and take an incredible 7-wicket haul as the hosts bowled out the visitors for only 153 and won the match by 321 runs.

2. 7/66 vs South Africa, Nagpur, 2015

Another match where Ashwin was totally on top against the opposing batting order. After India got bowled out for only 215 runs in the first innings, the duo of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja would shatter the Proteas, picking up 9 wickets between them with the former taking 5 and the latter picking up 4. South Africa would get bowled out for only 79 runs. In reply, the Men in Blue would also fail to score big and would get bundled out for 173. However, the target of 310 would prove to be too much for the visitors and Ashwin’s magnificent 7-wicket haul would see them get bowled out for 185 and lose the match by 124 runs.

3. 7/71 vs West Indies, Roseau, 2023

The West Indian batting order had no answer to Ashwin’s quality spin bowling throughout the match. In the first innings, the Windies would get bowled out for only 150 runs and Ashwin’s impressive figures of 5/60 played a big part in that. In reply, centuries from both Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal would power the Men in Blue to a huge total of 421/5 before they decided to declare. Then, a sensational 7-wicket haul from Ashwin would massively help India in bowling out West Indies for only 130 and win the match by an innings and 141 runs.

4. 7/83 vs West Indies, Antigua, 2016

In this match, Ashwin not only starred with the ball but also gave a massive contribution to India’s first inning total with the bat. Ashwin would play a slow but steady knock and form valiant stands as well to score a tremendous century. He would lose his wicket on 113 as India declared on 566/8. In reply, their bowlers would also do a fantastic job and bundle out the hosts for 243 runs and enforce a follow-on. Ashwin’s magnificent 7-wicket haul would prove to be crucial for India and they would bowl out the Windies for 231, winning the match by an innings and 92 runs.

5. 7/103 vs Australia, Chennai, 2013

Ashwin’s bowling spell would prove to be crucial for India in the first innings as he would completely shatter the Australian top-order. The first 6 wickets of the match would be taken by the spinner as no Australian batter except Michael Clarke had any answer to his fantastic deliveries. Ashwin would complete his 7-wicket haul with Nathan Lyon’s wicket. In reply, India would post a humongous total of 572 before Ashwin would take another 5-wicket haul in the second innings which helped the hosts in bundling out the visitors for 241.India would easily chase the 50-run target and win the match by 8 wickets.
