India suffered a 3-1 loss in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Jaiswal was one of the positives in the tour besides star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, as he finished as the second-highest run-scorer behind star batter Travis Head.

During a discussion at Star Sports, Gavaskar was questioned about his thoughts about Jaiswal’s performance in the series, and the cricketing legend stated that he was quite happy with the show that was given to them.

“This player’s biggest virtue is that he learns a lot from his first mistake. The way he got out last year in both Tests in South Africa, I had a slight doubt in my mind whether he would be able to score runs on similar pitches in Australia,” Gavaskar said.

“In the first innings in Perth, he opened the face of his bat slightly and got caught at gully. In the second innings, he played with an absolutely straight bat to mid-off and mid-on and when he was flicking, he was playing wide of mid-on and not towards square leg,” Gavaskar added.

Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in India’s first innings in the first Test match in Perth. Right as the rumours were about to begin about him, he came back in the second innings and scored 161 runs and led India to a big win.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, the batter is going to prove his fitness on Tuesday December 24, which is two days before the important Boxing-Day Test.
However, the same Sydney Morning Herald report also stated about Head not coming to train on Monday. The report cited the team spokesperson who said that the practice session was “optional.”

Travis Head is currently in his peak form in the ongoing five-match Test series. He has scored 409 runs at an average of 81.2. He scored a century in the pink-ball Test, scoring 140 runs that helped Australia register a 10-wicket win in Adelaide.

He then came out and scored another century at the Gabba stadium, as he scored 152 runs. He had previously scored 89 runs in the second innings of the Perth Test where Australia had lost by 295 runs.

The five-match Test series is currently levelled 1-1 as the third Test match ended in a draw. Both teams will now focus to win the fourth Tests in order to qualify for the World test Championship (WTC) finals, set to take place in England in 2025.

“I don’t think a lot of people believed in me because they thought that this bowling action will not last for long. He’ll play for six months, seven months,” Bumrah told Fox Cricket.

“So not really a lot of people worked on me or, you know, gave me inputs that, you know, I think this is useful or you should stop doing that because I don’t think they saw a lot of merit,” he added.

“I think that worked out in my favour because I was self-reliant then and I had to have a lot of self-belief and find out solutions on my own. So yes, nobody tried to change me, but nobody gave any extra solutions,” he further added.

“So that worked out for the best in the greater interest, but then that helped me develop, you know, relying on yourself and having the self-belief. So I think that worked out brilliantly for me,” he concluded.

In the Test in Perth, Kohli also departed for a single-digit score in the first inning, but then came back in the second inning and smashed his 81st Test century. Jasprit Bumrah shared his views about this and stated that Kohli was not out of form, the conditions were just difficult for him.

“About Virat – I didn’t see him out of form at all. On challenging wickets it’s hard to judge if a batsman is in form. He was looking good in the nets,” Bumrah said in the post-match presentation. 

On the 3rd Day of the first Test, Kohl smashed an unbeaten 100 as India called off the innings, setting a target of 534 for Australia. This century marks the 7th Test century for Kohli, and has equalled his tally with that of England’s Wally Hammond.

Kohli made an unbeaten score of 100 against Australia in Perth. This was his first century after his score of 121 against West Indies in July 2023. Since then, Kohli has not been able to take his score to the triple-digit mark.

This fall in performance is a massive fall for someone who used to strike centuries for fun, and the star batter was also a befuddled batter in turners at home grounds.

When batting at Perth, even during a moment of self-gratification, the priority for Kohli was the team.

There is little chance of rain for the rest of the match, only morning of the first Test will witness a shower. Although there may be clouds in the sky, the weather should not be something to be worried about later on in the match.
