Even though he was high in spirits, Kambli moved out of hospital as he appeared physically weak as he posed for photographs along with the hospital staff. He also played a short game of cricket.

Shailesh Thakur, the director of Akruti Hospital, stated during Kambli’s hospitalisation that he had even made a call to former Indian captain Kapil Dev whose teammates also offered their hand to help the Mumbai cricketer.

“Hi Kapil paaji how are you,” Kambli said emotionally.

“I will come and see you. You are looking good, you have coloured your beard. Don’t rush. If you need to stay (in the hospital) for a few more days, please don’t rush. Tell the doctors it is fine if there is a need to stay on for two more days,” Kapil said.

“Take care. When you will better and come out, I will come to meet you. Look after yourself, love you,” Kapil added.

“Thank you Shailesh, (for) you are looking after him. He is looking good, look after him,” Kapil said as he thanked Shailesh.

“I have been a fan of Kambli sir all my life and it was tough to see him struggling because of his health issues. We brought him to our hospital and we will also take care of his medical expenses and hospitalisation in the future,” Thakur told PTI.

Vinod Kambli had been fine in his recovery as he made significant progress after he got hospitalised. People were willing for him to recover at a decent pace, to which he came up to their expectations.

His physician, Dr. Vivek Dwivedi disclosed that Kambli had brain clots, and gave out a concerning image of the former Indian cricket player. Kambli has a urinary tract infection and was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“We admitted him on Saturday evening. He was experiencing muscle cramps and dizziness at home… He had a high-grade fever when we brought him to the hospital and difficulty walking due to muscle cramps. On investigation, we found that he had a urine infection, and sodium and potassium deficiency which were causing muscle cramps. A brain scan revealed that he had old clots because he had suffered a stroke recently. We admitted him to the ICU because he also had low BP… His vitals are stable but his treatment and physiotherapy are ongoing. We are planning to discharge him in 2-3 days,” Dr. Dwivedi told ANI.

“His brain’s condition is not stable… There are degenerative changes in his brain. So, we are focussing more on rehabilitation,” Dr. Dwivedi added.

However, positive news has come out, as a video of Vinod has been going viral where he is seen dancing. The video has won hearts of a lot of fans as the cricketer has shown progress towards his rehabilitation.

“At that time, it came to my mind that Sachin didn’t help. I was extremely frustrated. But Sachin did everything for me, including paying for my two surgeries in 2013. We spoke, and childhood friendship came forward,” Kambli revealed on The Viky Lalwani Show.

“Sachin told me how to play. I made nine comebacks. We are cricketers; we get hurt. When we get out, we also get hurt,” Kambli added.

During the interview, Kambli also revealed that he is ready to go for rehab and added that he wanted to go there because he doesn’t fear anything.

“I’m ready to go for rehab. I want to go there because I don’t fear anything. My family is with me,” Kambli said.

“I am a retired cricketer, who is completely dependent on the pension from the BCCI. My only payment [source of income] at the moment is from the Board, for which I am really thankful and grateful. It takes care of my family,” Kambli told Mid-Day in an interview.

“I need assignments, where I can work with youngsters. I know Mumbai have retained Amol [Muzumdar] as their head coach, but if anywhere I am needed, I am there. We have played together and we were a great team. That’s what I want them [current Mumbai team] to do…to play as a team. I was seeking help from the MCA [Mumbai Cricket Association]. I came into the CIC [Cricket Improvement Committee], but it was an honorary job. I went to the MCA for some help. I have a family to look after. I told the MCA many times that if you require me, I am there whether it is at the Wankhede Stadium or at BKC. Mumbai cricket has given me a lot. I owe my life to this game.”

Meanwhile, as per several Marathi websites, the work Kambli has been offered is not related to cricket. Kambli has been offered a position in the finance division of Sahyadri Industry Group in Mumbai. It will be interesting to see if Kambli takes up the job or not. However, it was very generous of Sandeep Thorat to stand up for a national cricketer.

While former cricketers generally work as commentators, experts, and coaches, Kambli doesn’t have any such assignments. In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Kambli revealed that his only source of income is the 30,000 pension he receives from the BCCI. Kambli said that he is open to taking cricket related assignments as he has a family to feed as well.

Kambli did a couple of coaching stints in the Mumbai T20 League and was also part of the Sachin Tendulkar’s Middlesex Global Academy. However, he gave up the latter as it was physically challenging for him to travel a long distance. He thanked Sachin for being a good friend but said that he doesn’t expect anything from him.

“He [Sachin] knows everything, but I am not expecting anything from him. He gave me the TMGA (Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy) assignment. I was very happy. He has been a very good friend. He has always been there for me,” Kambli said. “I would go to the Shardashram school, where I would eat food when the team met. That’s where Sachin stood up as a friend. I came from a very poor family.”
