Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar has said that the momentum of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is with Australia before the upcoming third Test, set to begin December 14 in Gabba. After winning the first Test in Perth, Indian team failed to perform well in the pink-ball Test and faced a 10-wicket defeat.

Sunil Gavaskar has explained that the momentum which Indian team got in Perth was lost during the gap of the 10 days as they lost the second Test match. Australian team shifted the momentum towards their side after they won the pink ball Test in Adelaide.

The momentum that the Indian team got in Perth was lost during the 10-day gap. Now the momentum is with Australia because they have won this Test match. After the Adelaide Test, a few days later, you are playing at The Gabba. So, the momentum is now with the Australian team,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

India will now face Australia for the third Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is set to begin December 14 in Gabba. The ongoing Test series is very important for India as the chance of India qualifying for the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) is dependent on the outcome of this series.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar criticised India’s bowling lineup for their poor performance in the second Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where India faced a 10-wicket loss.

Sanjay Manjrekar believes that the Indian bowling attack relies on Jasprit Bumrah more than needed. Sanjay also pointed out that Mohammed Siraj failed to provide enough support to Bumrah, while pacers like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana struggled to make any impact whatsoever.

Manjrekar was also impressed how Australian openers Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne mad use of of the opportunity after Bumrah departed. The stunning century by Travis Head further put light on India’s bowling lineup.

The Indian bowling attack suddenly looked average. There was Bumrah, a bit of Siraj and Harshit Rana realised that every day is not going to be like the Perth Test match. Credit to young Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne who grafted the innings. But there was not relentless quality bowling at those guys and that’s why maybe India wasn’t able to cash in,” Manjrekar said.

In Adelaide, in both innings, there was more of a reality check for the No.3 and No.4 of what they have to face in foreign conditions when the bowlers are holding their swing. There is of course a lack of experience with the kind of bowling attack that India have. There is Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj has been there before but he is not quite Mohammed Shami. Just put Shami in that equation in that evening session (Day 1 Adelaide) and the story would have been different,” he concluded.

The bowling action of Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is one of the most unique action in cricket history. Many people try to copy Bumrah’s action, just like many have tried to imitate that of Zaheer Khan, Shoaib Akhtar and others. However, the star pacer has revealed that no coach in India believed in him as they felt he won’t last long.

I don’t think a lot of people believed in me because they thought that this bowling action will not last for long. He’ll play for six months, seven months,” Bumrah told Fox Cricket.

So not really a lot of people worked on me or, you know, gave me inputs that, you know, I think this is useful or you should stop doing that because I don’t think they saw a lot of merit,” he added.

I think that worked out in my favour because I was self-reliant then and I had to have a lot of self-belief and find out solutions on my own. So yes, nobody tried to change me, but nobody gave any extra solutions,” he further added.

So that worked out for the best in the greater interest, but then that helped me develop, you know, relying on yourself and having the self-belief. So I think that worked out brilliantly for me,” he concluded.

Bumrah manage to pick eight wickets during the Test in Perth, and followed it up by taking four wickets in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. After India lost by 10 wickets in the Adelaide Test, skipper Rohit Sharma even shared his views on how the bowlers need to share workload with Bumrah.

India’s 1983 World Cup winning cricketer Kris Srikkanth lashed out at Mohammed Siraj for his aggressive behaviour in the recently concluded Test against Australia in Adelaide. Travis Head, who had just scored a century, got dismissed by Siraj, where the Indian pacer gave a fierce send-off to the Australian batter,

Srikkanth believes that Siraj should have accepted and praised Head’s outstanding performance instead of showing aggression. Srikkanth said that Siraj should have praised Head instead of resorting to verbal abuse.

He has smashed the bowling mercilessly. Hey Siraj, don’t you have brains? What are you doing? Have you gone mad? He smashed you left, right and centre. He hit boundaries and sixes effortlessly in his knock of 140. You’re giving him a send-off after that. Is this called Sledging? What rubbish is this? It’s just madness,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube show.

One batter has scored 140. Give him credit, and applaud his knock. Instead of saying ‘brilliant knock’, you’re giving him a send-off? As if, you got him out on 10 or 0, as if you planned it and got his wicket! He smashed you all over. The Indian bowlers had no answers to Head’s onslaught. 140 off 141 balls. Look at that. He hit sixes at will. He didn’t treat Ashwin as a spinner, he is dancing down the track and smashing him,” he added.

Coming to the match, Indian team got bowled out for just 180 in their first inning. Australia gave a show with the bat and posted a massive total of 337 on the board. In the second Inning, India posted a mere score of 175, resulting in Australia chasing just 18 runs. In the end, the hosts comfortably won the match by 10 wickets and levelled the series 1-1.

I enjoyed bowling a lot here. They were batting really well and when they hit the good balls for boundaries, you can’t help. Whatever you saw on TV, I didn’t say anything in disrespect. It was just part of my celebration,” Siraj said before Day 3 began.

Whatever he said in the press conference, it wasn’t true. He never said “well bowled”. We respect each other and cricket is a gentleman’s game. It didn’t feel right to me (Head’s comments in the media),” he added.

Adelaide: This week, the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia is all about the race for the semifinals. With just a couple of matches to go, teams in the reckoning to get into the last-four stage will be looking to inch closer by correcting their mistakes and getting those crucial wins in their kitty. For India, their fourth Super 12 match against Group 2 opponents Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday is a good opportunity to correct the wrongs from their five-wicket loss to South Africa at Perth in order to keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in semifinals.

“We’re very confident, but we know we have to play very, very well from here on if we want to win. It’s really a question of winning the next four games, really. You have to win the next four games to be able to win this tournament,” were Dravid’s simple words in the pre-match press conference on India’s road in the tournament.

Against South Africa, India were undone by fiery pace and bounce from a tall four-man pace attack, led by Lungi Ngidi’s four wickets. Every batter faltered, barring Suryakumar Yadav, who made a brilliant counter-attacking 68 and carried India to a decent score.

Though bowlers tried hard by picking the first three wickets quickly, they were unable to stop David Miller and Aiden Markram from reaching their respective half-centuries. There were also lapses in the field by India, a side which isn’t associated much with sloppy fielding efforts.

For starters, India would want for their top order to start firing in unison. Though Virat Kohli has been among the runs, they would wish for captain Rohit Sharma and a struggling KL Rahul to form a solid partnership with the bat.

The middle and lower order comprising Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik (if declared fit on morning of the match), would then have the job to double the score and indulge in some power-hitting if the top order fires.

With the ball, India need to decide how to make optimum use of the four overs from Ravichandran Ashwin, who can be handy against Bangladesh’s four left-handers, which also includes their captain Shakib Al Hasan, apart from getting their death-overs bowling right.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, arrive into this match on the back of a thrilling three-run win over Zimbabwe in Brisbane. In their campaign where they are also in with a chance to qualify for the semifinals, pacer Taskin Ahmed has been a standout performer for them.

In the tournament till now, Ahmed has taken eight wickets and has been great with the new ball, resulting in bagging two Player-of-the-Match awards in both of Bangladesh’s victories till now. He has also been supported very well by fellow pacers Hasan Mahmud and Mustafizur Rahman.

With the bat, opener Najmul Hossain Shanto’s career-best knock of 71 against Zimbabwe would have pleased the team management. But they would still like for Shakib, Soumya Sarkar, and the finishers, Nurul Hasan and Yasir Ali to put up a strong show with the bat against India’s bowlers.

When India and Bangladesh met last time in the T20 World Cup, it led to a heart-stopping one-run win for the former in Bengaluru in 2016. Whenever these two teams meet on the field, there is always drama, emotions and cricketing brilliance combined to make it an unforgettable match for fans from both countries.

“All the eleven players which India have, they are all capable to play for India and that’s why they are a part of the team. We know what we are coming up against tomorrow. We know the challenges and try to plan accordingly, prepare ourselves and do our best,” added Shakib.

With both teams tied on four points from three matches and only the net run rate separating them, India and Bangladesh will meet as sides in contention for the semifinals, as fans wait for another famous tale to be written in cricketing chapter between the two neighbours, though rain could play spoilsport to their best-laid plans in Adelaide.

Squads

India: Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami.

Bangladesh: Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Nurul Hasan (wicket-keeper), Afif Hossain, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Litton Das, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shoriful Islam, Soumya Sarkar, Musaddek Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed and Yasir Ali Chowdhury.
