After he got dropped from the Test squad at home against England last year, Babar Azam made a significant return to the Test cricket format. Babar has been the standout performer for Pakistan with the bat in the South Africa tour, scoring three consecutive half-centuries in two Test series.

However, he got left frustrated by his dismissal as the Day 3 came to an end at Cape Town. Babar failed to complete his century and had to return to the dugout after scoring just 81 runs.

I’m very disappointed with both innings. I started well, but didn’t finish well,” Babar said after Day 3’s play as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
If you settle, you must go much bigger. That is why I was a bit upset. There were just 15 minutes left,” he added.

After getting bowled out at 194, Babar opened the innings with captain Shan Masood as Saim Ayub was injured. Both the openers shared a partnership of 205 runs, which is the highest by an opening pair in history of Test cricket.

The conditions here are different from Centurion, when you come to South Africa, you don’t expect that [the pitch will be so flat]. With the new ball, it was a bit challenging, but once you settled down and built a partnership, it became easier. But there are some rough patches; you saw a couple of overs from Maharaj to Shan which got some turn and bounce. So the spinner is a bit of a challenge for the batter. But against the fast bowler, if you’re settled, just play your normal game,” he concluded.

Pakistan were at 213/1 after Day 3 came to an end. Nightwatchman Khurran Shahzad scored eight runs from 14 balls. Skipper Shan Masood stayed unbeaten for 102 off 166 balls. Pakistan still needs to get rid of a trail of 208 runs

Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has found his form with the bat in Test cricket. He scored his third consecutive half-century in the ongoing series against South Africa. When following-on in the Cape Town Test, Babar Azam along with captain Shan Masood pressured the Proteas with their record-breaking opening partnership.

However, a small incident happened during the 32nd over of the innings, where Wiaan Mulder made a wild throw that went on to hit Babar on the right leg. As a result, the former Pakistan skipper was raged as he looked at Mulder who was caught saying on the stump mic, “You were out of the crease“.

Wicketkeeper Kyle Verryene also made an attempt to run out as Babar had left the crease to confront the pacer. The attempted run-out was similar to that of Alex Carey when he shocked Jonny Baristow durig the previous Ashes, which caused a lot of controversy.

The on-field umpire stepped in to stop the parties and clear up the situation. Babar also had some sort of talk with Aiden Markram. Shan Masood tried to calm Babar as well.

The former Pakistan skipper eventually got dismissed by left-arm pacer Marco Jansen in 47th over. he went for a massive drive through the covers, where he was caught by David Bedingham. Babar scored 81 runs from 124 balls , including 10 fours.

The post Jason Gillespie reveals real reason for Resigning as Pakistan team’s Test coach appeared first on Cricket Country.

]]>
Jason Gillespie has revealed that he had no clear communication with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the playing eleven, even a day before a match and he added that his role as their red-ball coach has just been reduced to him hitting catches.

Jason took the duty of Pakistan’s red-ball coach in April with a two-year deal, and led the team to a 2-1 series victory at home over England in October. Gillespie however resigned from his role last week before Pakistan’s Test series against South Africa. Aaqib Javed has been name the interim Test coach of Pakistan till then.

I felt I was basically hitting catches, and that was about it on the morning of a game. You want to be able to have clear communication with all stakeholders, with selectors, for instance, knowing what the team is as head coach well before the game, or at least the day before the game,” Jason said on ABC Grandstand show.

He also said that the PCB and he were not able to clearly communicate, with the high-performance coach Tim Neilsen got sacked, and him not having a word in the selection committee, he ultimately stepped down from his rols.

I went into the job eyes wide open, I want to make that really clear. I knew that Pakistan had cycled through a number of coaches in a pretty short space of time, but I put my case forward and explained how I felt I could help,” Gillespie said.

You want to create an environment where players are relaxed but focused and get out and do the job and give them the freedom to go out and play the game. I felt that in the red ball, in the Test side, we were very much on track doing that, which culminated in that series win against England,” he added.

So a lot of good stuff happened from when I took the job on to where things have finished up (now), I didn’t get on the plane on Friday. The straw that broke the camel’s back, I suppose, was, as a head coach, you like to have clear communication with your employer. I was completely and utterly blindsided by a decision to not have a high-performance coach,” he further added.

Tim Nielsen was told that his services were no longer required and I had absolutely zero communication from anyone about that, and I just thought after a number of other things that had gone on in the previous few months, that was probably the moment where I thought, ‘Well, I’m not really sure if they actually really want me to do this job or not’,” he recalled.

Jason also spoke about how he had such a great relationship with skipper Shan Masood and that the feedback regarding the work of Nielsen has been positive.

I developed a really close relationship with the test captain, Shan Masood, and felt we were certainly going in the right direction and things were going really well. All the feedback that I’d got or the feedback the PCB got was just how effective Tim had been in his role as well and the players were getting a lot out of him. They called him grandpa and there was some good banter between the boys,” he said.

Shan and I spoke a lot about that and the players about whether you play one Test match or 100, it’s irrelevant. If you’ve got something of value to contribute to the team you can do that in a safe space and we felt we were making so many gains in that space,” he concluded.

Former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie, who was the red-ball coach for Pakistan’s team, has called in for his retirement rom his position as he was not involved in the consulting on the selection of national squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in South Africa.

According to PTI, some officials from Pakistan cricket Board (PCB) made then environment quite difficult for the former Australian cricketer. He was also disappointed by the fact that PCB did not bother renewing his contract.

Circumstances were created to make the former Australian player feel alienated in major decisions about the team,” the source said.

First despite his request the board didn’t renew the contract of high performance coach Tim Nielsen and then the Test squad for the SA series was announced without consulting him,” he added.

The source noted that even though Jason was aware about the board stripping him away of having any inputs in the selection matters, he was expecting that he would get consulted by the selectors for any series as the head coach.

Gillespie was also not happy that while refusing to renew the contract of Nielsen whom he had recommended, the board preferred to bring in Shahid Aslam from the National Cricket Academy as a coach into the support staff on the recommendation of interim white ball head coach and senior selector Aaqib Javed,” the source added.

Pakistan team is currently scheduled to plat two-match Test series against South Africa, which is going to take action from December 26.

Pakistan red-ball coach Jason Gillespie has declined to join the Pakistan Test team for the upcoming two-match assignment against South Africa, set to begin December 22. Pakistan team is currently in South Africa for three-match ODI series followed by three-match T20I series.

After finishing the series, both the teams will face each other for the two-match Test series. According to reports from Cricbuzz, Jason is upset with a few recent decisions of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He was was supposed to fly out to South Africa along with the Test squad via Dubai, but there was no sign of him. It is believed that he has given in his resignation.

The report also stated that Jason has not been happy with the PCB for quite some time, especially since he got kept out from some important decisions during the recent home series against England. The last point of breakage seemed to be PCB’s decision to not renew the contract of assistant coach Tim Nielsen who was taken by the board in August.

The PCB has appointed two foreign head coaches, and both were unable to survive for even six months. This is not creating any sort of good image of the PCB.

The same report has further added that former Pakistan pacer Aqib Javed has been asked to take interim charge of the red ball tea, especially considering the fact that the upcoming Tests are part of the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Cricket South Africa has announced the information about releasing JP Duminy from his role with immediate effect as the white-ball coach. Duminy stepped down from his position on December 6, which was the result of a mutual agreement with the governing body.

In March 2023, Duminy was appointed as the head coach for the white-ball team, as he was working under head coach Rob Walter. His appointment was the marker for the beginning of a new time period for South Africa as he came in after Mark Boucher got departed. As the governing body confirmed the news, Cricket South Africa released an official statement.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announces that JP Duminy has stepped down from his role as the white-ball batting coach with immediate effect, following a mutual agreement with CSA based on personal reasons,” the statement read.

JP Duminy, a stalwart of South African cricket, has been a key member of the limited-overs coaching staff since his appointment in March 2023. His contributions to the growth and development of the batting department within the national white-ball setup have been invaluable,” the statement added.

CSA wishes Duminy all the best in his future endeavors and thanks him for his contributions to the Proteas Men’s team during his tenure. A process to identify a suitable replacement is currently underway, and the appointment of a new white-ball batting coach will be announced in due course,” the statement concluded.

Before he got assigned with the national team, Duminy served as the head coach of the SA20 side Paarl Royals, along with the domestic side Boland.

Cricket South Africa will now undergo the process of finding a replacement for Duminy soon, even though it may not be possible to appoint a particular replacement in time for the upcoming series against Pakistan.

Highlights Score PAK vs SA T20 World Cup And Latest Match Updates: Shadab Khan produced a special all-round effort as Pakistan kept their semifinal hopes alive with a 33-run win over South Africa in a rain-curtailed T20 World Cup match here on Thursday. Shadab first led Pakistan’s strong batting display with a scintillating 22-ball 52, propelling them to 185 for nine after opting to bat.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (3/14) and Shadab (2/16) then blew away the South African top order as the Proteas could manage 108 for 9 in 14 overs. As per DLS method, South Africa were set a revised target of 142 runs in 14 overs after the rain interruption.

With the win, Pakistan (4 points) moved up to the third spot in group 2 While South Africa (5 points) continued to stay second behind leaders India (6 points). While Shaheen got rid of the dangerous Quinton de Kock (0) and Riley Rossouw (7), Shadab accounted for skipper Temba Bavuma (36) and Aiden Makram (20) before rain interrupted play. With South Africa needing 73 off five overs after rain cut short the game by six overs, Tristan Stubbs (18) and Heinrich Klaasen (15) came all guns blazing.

Under the pump, Klaasen slapped Shadab for a a four before hitting Shaheen for back-to-back boundaries through the cow corner and over mid off but couldn’t keep the antics going as the left-armer forced an inside edge to claim South Africa’s fifth wicket. South Africa missed the services of their ace batter David Miller who was ruled out due to an injury as the Proteas lost wickets at regular intervals in a bid to hit boundaries and sixes.

Earlier, Iftikhar Ahmed made 51 in 35 balls and anchored the innings after they were tottering at 43/4 in the seventh over. Shadab, who reached his half-century in 20 balls, struck four sixes and three fours in his whirlwind knock.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Pakistan lost an early wicket in Mohammed Rizwan, who played on after being cramped for room by a Wayne Parnell delivery that nipped back just enough to create problems for the batter.

Drafted into the squad as a reinforcement for an injured Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Haris came in at the fall of first wicket and immediately started finding the fence. With the help of three sixes and two fours, Haris smashed 28 off 11 balls. However, Haris was trapped in front of the wicket by Anrich Nortje after the batter shuffled across to play the ball through midwicket but failed to connect.

Haris reviewed but the decision stayed as Pakistan, from 38 for one, slipped to 43 for four in a span of two overs. The in-form Iftikhar, along with Mohammad Nawaz (28 off 22 balls), steadied the innings with a partnership of 52 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was out lbw to left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.

Shadab joined Iftikhar and started accelerating straightway to prop up Pakistan in the back-10. Anrich Nortje was the most successful bowler for South Africa with figures of 4/41.
