Yuzvendra Chahal, an India leg-spinner, made a spectacular start for the Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Wednesday in the One-Day Cup in Canterbury. He claimed five wickets in as many games to help his team defeat Kent Spitfires, a former County team, by nine wickets.
An hour before his debut, the 34-year-old’s signing with the Northants was revealed.
As a member of India’s winning T20 World Cup team, Chahal utterly destroyed Kent’s batting lineup, taking five wickets for fourteen in his ten overs and bowling them out for 82 in 35.1 overs.

Jaydn Denly (age 22), Ekansh Singh (10), Grant Stewart (1), Beyers Swanepoel (1), and Nathan Gilchrist (6) were among his victims.
The tourists easily achieved the target, scoring 86 for one in 14 overs.

In the last match of the tournament, the Northants won for the first time this year. They finished eighth in the nine-team Group A table, missing out on a trip to the quarterfinals after losing their previous six games.
