The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to change the venues for the upcoming tri-nation ODI series, which will feature Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, set to begin February 8. The original venue for the series was to be in Multan, but now the board shifted it to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Stadium in Karachi.

The board stated that the reason for this change in venues was because of their confidence in the readiness of these upgraded venues, and shared a release in order to announce the updated venue for the tri-nation ODI series.

Given the advanced stage of preparations at the Gaddafi Stadium and the National Bank Stadium, the PCB has decided to relocate the upcoming tri-nation ODI series to these two venues. The series, featuring New Zealand and South Africa alongside Pakistan, was originally scheduled to be held in Multan,” said PCB in release.

Both the stadiums are currently under renovations for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. PCB will be the host of the marquee event, which is set to take pace with all the matches to be played in Pakistan, along with the exception of India’s matches, which will be held in Dubai.

The venues for the semi-final and final of the Champions Trophy will either be within Pakistan, or it will change to Dubai. If India qualifies for the semi-final and final, the matches will be held in Dubai, otherwise Lahore will host the clashes.

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson saw India’s decision to not travel to Pakistan, and has called it as “unfortunate”, but also stated that this ICC showpiece will let star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to save themselves from a prolonged period of bad form.

The global governing body of the sport has decided to go with a Hybrid model for the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy, with India going to play their matches at a neutral venue in Dubai.

It’s unfortunate that things have worked out that way for sure. But there’s no doubt that what everyone loves seeing — the India-Pakistan games. Whenever they come together, whether it’s an ICC event, it is a really special time because we’ve got a sense of what’s on the line,” Watson told the media.

It’s unfortunate that India aren’t travelling to Pakistan for this Champions Trophy. But, unfortunately, that’s just the way it is right now,” he added.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is going to begin in February and India’s matches will be played in Dubai. If India manages to qualify for semi-final and final, both the matches will be also held in Dubai, otherwise, the matches will be held in Pakistan itself.

India’s schedule for Champions Trophy 2025:
India vs Bangladesh: February 20 in Dubai
India vs Pakistan: February 23 in Dubai
India vs New Zealand: March 2 in Dubai
Semi-final (if qualified): March 4 in Dubai
Final (if qualified): March 9 in Dubai

PCB is going to be the host of the Champions Trophy 2025, and Pakistan is going to host 10 matches of the tournament. All the three matches involving India will be held in Dubai, including the much-hyped match against Pakistan.

In case India makes it across the league matches, the semifinal and the final will also be held in Dubai. On the other hand, if India gets eliminated in the league matches, the semifinal and final will be held in Lahore and Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

The PCB was earlier seeking compensation from ICC in case India denied travelling to Pakistan for the event, however this request has now been dropped by the ICC. PCB will not be getting any compensation but they are to host an ICC Women’s tournament after 2027.

the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Indian team will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Due to security concerns, the BCCI has given its decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and have expressed their preference for their matches to be held in Dubai.

This has been our stance and there is no reason to change that. We have written to them and asked them to shift our games to Dubai,” informed a source.

The top 8 cricket teams in the world are going to face each other in this upcoming ICC event. According to the presented schedule, the Champions Trophy 2025 is going to be held in three different cities in Pakistan namely Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.

India’s participation in this tournament however is not confirmed as of now. Sources indicate that the BCCI is continuing its stand on not touring Pakistan, even though they have consulted with the Indian government. This stand keeps their decision from the last year’s Asia Cup where they were successful in negotiating to shift their matches to Sri Lanka even after facing pressure from host Pakistan.

Reports also conclude that Dubai is coming out to be the frontrunner to host India’s matches of the Champions Trophy 2025. The city has a successful record of hosting high-profile cricket events along with being home to the ICC headquarters.

As of now, the BCCI has not made any official statement related to the participation of India in the Champions Trophy.

According to a BCCI source who spoke with ANI, the Indian team would not be visiting Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The board intends to propose to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that their matches be held in Dubai or Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will host the ICC Champions Trophy in February and March of 2025. Since the 2008 Asia Cup, India has refrained from playing cricket in Pakistan due to tense political tensions.

The archrivals’ most recent bilateral series took place in India from December 2012 to January 2013. They have only met at the Asia Cup and ICC competitions since then.

There have been long-standing rumors that India would skip its trip to Pakistan for the ICC competition.

It was suggested by the Pakistan Cricket Board that India play all of their games at Lahore. The BCCI, however, has no interest in visiting Pakistan. Vice-President of the BCCI Rajeev Shukla stated in May that the Indian squad would only travel to Pakistan for the competition if permission from the central government was granted.

“We shall follow the instructions of the Government of India on the Champion Trophy. Only when authorized by the Indian government do we dispatch our team. Thus, we shall proceed in accordance with the Indian government’s decision,” Shukla said to ANI.

The Asia Cup 2023 was won by India in the Colombo final. Although Pakistan proposed a hybrid strategy to compete in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the proposal was never taken into consideration.

Champions Trophy in the past

When the ICC Champions Trophy was last conducted in 2017, Pakistan came out on top. Rain ruined both the Match Day and the Reserve Day, hence India and Sri Lanka were crowned equal victors. India won the title for the second time in 2013 after defeating England.

Dubai: Cometh the hour, cometh the man! Virat Kohli has faced a lot of media scrutiny in recent times, but when India needed him the most – he came good. Against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, Kohli came in to bat after Rohit Sharma perished for a golden duck.

Kohli saved the day as he scored 57 off 49 balls to help India post 151 for seven. During his 49-ball stay, Kohli became the 1st batter to score 500 runs against Pakistan in ICC limited-overs tournaments. Heading into the match, Kohli needed 20 runs to reach the mark.

Kohli’s runs did not come at a flying tempo, but he did just what was needed after India was pegged back in the powerplay by Shaheen Afridi’s double strike.

Dubai: It was the worst possible start for India as they lost the opener, Rohit Sharma, for a duck on Sunday in Dubai during the high-octane game between India and Pakistan at the T20 World Cup. Rohit was wrapped on his pads off the very first ball he faced. Shaheen Afridi trapped him plumb in front and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. The ball curled back in sharply and Rohit was caught napping.

It was a dream start for Pakistan, thanks to Afridi.

His show did not impress fans who hit back at him on social space:

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field. India captain Virat Kohli at the toss said that it’s a big game for them and they’ll treat it very professionally.

“The message is absolutely simple and clear. I know it’s a big game for everyone around the world very keenly. Fans add a great atmosphere and vibe. As players, we need to disconnect from that a little bit.

“Use that as a motivation and not get overawed by it and hold into the emotional side of things. We need to be absolutely professional and that’s something we have done well over the years,” Kohli said.

Dubai: Pakistan’s Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl against India. At the toss, Kohli admitted that he too wanted to bowl first. Kohli said India need to stay focused and as players should stay disconnected from all that is happening around the match. Hoping that the pitch yields runs, Kohli also spoke of the pitch which as per him looks different.

“The pitch looks very different. Evenly rolled and there is no grass at all which was the case during the IPL, and I’m sure that was done to hold it together well for the World Cup. We expect the pitch to stay good all through and set a good total,” Kohli said at the toss.

India – who are hot title contenders – would start hot favourites against arch-rivals Pakistan. The Kohli-led side is in top form, coming off two convincing wins in the warm-up games against England and then Australia. India looks like a well-oiled machine and their enviable record against Pakistan makes them frontrunners to win the match.

Babar Azam: We are going to bowl first. We’ll look to take early wickets and put pressure. Dew is also a factor. We have had good practice sessions and am confident about our preparations. Pakistan’s bowlers are known to trouble other teams but I am confident about our batting too. Haider Ali is left out.

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah
