India had their first training session on Tuesday after the 10-wicket loss against Australia in the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar series. Ahead of their departure to Brisbane, the team practiced at the Adelaide Oval. However, one major concern that came into notice was the absence of pace duo Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.
According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, both Siraj and Bumrah skipped the practice session ahead of the must-win game in Gabba. This could be due to the team management trying to manage the workload, however Bumrah spending time with India’s conditioning coach during the net session did spark major concerns.
During the 20th over of Australia’s first innings in the Adelaide Test, Bumrah looked to have sustained cramps and the medical personnel was called in immediately. However, he shrugged off the injury and returned to the attack.
At the time it didn’t look like anything big, but Bumrah’s bowling speed drastically went down in the second innings which again sparked concerns over his participation in the Brisbane Test.
Former Australia bowler Damien Fleming believes that Bumrah definitely didn’t sustain just a cramp during the Test and also blamed skipper Rohit Sharma for making his star pacer bowl when Australia only needed to chase a target of 19 runs.
“There’s got to be some serious doubts. Siraj might be workload [related] but I’m bemused Bumrah bowled that over. They could have hid this. They showed their hand,” Fleming told SEN Radio.
“There’s no way that’s cramp. He was very ginger after the break in the first innings. He bowled again, not quite as slow second innings. I don’t even know why he bowled that over [in the second innings]. That actually gave some secrets away to everyone,” Fleming added.

If Bumrah does miss out on the Brisbane Test, then India can replace him with fellow pacer Akash Deep, which would also mean that Siraj will be leading the attack for the Men in Blue.
