Piyush Chawla Tells the Reason Mumbai Indians called him for IPL 2023: ‘MI had Good Spinners but…’

Piyush Chawla has said that though MI had good spinners, experience plays an important role, so he had a crucial in their performance in IPL 2023.

Senior Indian spinner Piyush Chawla has said that though Mumbai Indians (MI) had good spinners at the time, experience plays an important role, and so he became crucial to their performance in IPL 2023. He went unsold in the mega auctions of IPL 2022. But just after a year, he turned out to play as a turning point in their performance.

MI finished last in the IPL 2022, and they picked up Chawla right next year. He came out as the highest wicket-taker for the franchise.

Though a lot of questions were raised over the effectiveness of Chawla for a decade after his last international outing, Chawla proved himself with his experience.

“With due respect to everyone, MI had good spinners but somewhere down the line, experience matters. If a pressure situation arises, the way an experienced campaigner will handle it, a youngster won’t be able to. When we were 20-21, we used to bowl to escape punishment, now we do it to pick wickets. When people questioned, ‘Why Piyush Chawla, and this that?’, I said fine, let them talk,” Chawla said.
