In the presence of Rohit Pawar, president of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, Rohit gave a short speech to a boisterous gathering at the opening of his cricket academy in Rashin, Karjat, in the Ahmednagar district.

After stepping out on stage for a little while and signing autographs, Rohit addressed the audience, saying, “I do not speak Marathi that well but I will try.”

“We had to win the World Cup for three or four months, and that was our top priority. I felt alive again after winning the World Cup,” he remarked.

“We are starting our cricket academy here and I will hope that the next Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah will emerge from here,” he said.

Before the five-match Test series against Australia that begins on November 22, Rohit and a few other key players will take a break from the T20 series. Rohit led India to a convincing 2-0 victory over Bangladesh in the Tests.

Pakistan faced their biggest ever defeat in the T20 World Cup as they lost to a non-playing nation USA. After their failed performance in the event, the team could not qualify for the Super 8 of tournament and their campaign ended on June 16.

“After three months, I think he should have done it at the same time. As soon as the World Cup was over, our World Cup was over on 16th June. Because we had not qualified further. “The only reason I retired from T20Is is because I have had my time, I enjoyed playing the format, I played for 17 years, I did well and all of that,” said Rohit.

“Then, you won the (2024) World Cup. This was the best time for me to decide that ‘okay, this is now time for me to move on and look after the other things’. There are a lot of good players who can do well for India.”

Rohit also said how he still has what it takes to represent India in all formats. He also told about how he trains his mind in order to meet the high standards of fitness to play international cricket.

“It (decision to retire from T20Is) was not because I felt anything. I just felt this was the right time. I could still play all three formats easily. That’s why I say fitness is in your mind, how you train your mind.”

“I believe everything is in the mind. I am a person who has got a lot of self-belief because I know that I can control my mind when I have to. Sometimes it’s not easy. I know most of the time I can do that. If you tell your body that you are young, you can do this, you can do that, (then) of course you can,” Rohit concluded.

In an interaction with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Shahidi was asked to chose one whose victory he took more significant against Australia in 2024 T20 World Cup or the win against Pakistan. The win over Pakistan was picked by Shahidi as the people were very happy for that victory.

“Both wins were important, but the victory over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup was monumental; people were incredibly happy,” he said.
