Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah reclaimed the number one spot in the latest ICC Test bowler rankings, overtaking his teammate, Ravichandran Ashwin. Also, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli saw major gains in the Test batter rankings.
Bumrah claimed pole position in the rankings for only the second time on the back of his six scalps picked during the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. Ashwin claimed five wickets in Kanpur and is only one point behind Bumrah’s rating of 870 points.
Jaiswal, who was named the Player of the Match in the Kanpur Test for hitting half-centuries in both of India’s innings, jumped to the third spot in the Test batter rankings on the back of his scores of 47 and 29* in the Kanpur Test.
Jaiswal is now only behind England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in the Test batter rankings. On the other hand, Kohli jumped 6 places and moved to the sixth position in the rankings.
Other movers in the ranking include Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis who climbed to the 11th spot in the batter rankings after his century in the second Test against New Zealand.
