U19 WC 2024: Ravichandran Ashwin, an Indian spin veteran, praised compatriot and U19 skipper Uday Saharan for staying cool throughout the ICC U19 World Cup, which begins on Sunday with a championship match against Australia. India will face Australia in the U19 World Cup final in Benoni. This is India’s sixth consecutive U19 World Cup final appearance, and the third versus Australia. Australia has never defeated India in the U19 World Cup final. If India defeats Australia, they would win the championship for the sixth time, while Australia will win it for the fourth time.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated that many people have already dubbed Uday the ‘Find of the Tournament’. However, the spin veteran believes that his confidence is more noteworthy, comparing it to emerging Indian star Rinku Singh, who is performing well as a finisher for the senior squad.

“This World Cup, many people are already dubbing him the discovery of the tournament; he is the first skipper to be the team’s best run scorer. It’s not about the runs; it’s Uday Saharan’s match-winning ability that impresses me, as is the calmness with which he plays,” remarked Ashwin.

“Something like Rinku Singh, as I mentioned lately. It cannot be purchased with money. Uday Saharan has that nurtured in him. He has a quiet confidence. “He has a calm, composed, and confident personality,” Ashwin said.

Uday is the leading run scorer in the U19 World Cup, with 389 runs in six matches at an average of 64.83, including a century and three fifties. His highest score is 100.

Saharan’s reputation has increased throughout the tournament, with his match-winning 81 in the semi-final against South Africa playing a key part in his team’s progression to the final. With the side struggling at 32/4, his double-century partnership with Sachin Dhas helped India reach the 245-run mark.

Saharan also hit a century in India’s Super Sixes match against Nepal, and he has been able to adjust his style of play to the various scenarios he has faced during the tournament.

The final match between India and Australia will start at 1:30 PM IST.

In reaction to a troll’s criticism of his commentary, former West Indies cricketer and pundit Ian Bishop explained why he will continue to praise and exaggerate the performances of emerging players on his platform.Bishop, who played 127 international matches and 279 wickets for the West Indies as a speed bowler between 1988 and 1998, became a pundit after retiring. Over the years, his electrifying commentary, captivating voice, and classic quotables have earned him a large following base. His understanding of emerging cricketers, as well as his ability to pump them up after a strong performance, are important aspects of his analysis.

Bishop was recently the recipient of trolling on X  during Pakistan and Australia’s ICC U19 World Cup semifinal match.

A member of the public tweeted, “Ali RAZA is a super star … says @irbishi as RAZA takes eighth wicket … cliffhanger this #AUSvPAK semi is shaping up into.”

Another user responded that Bishop has a habit of making a’star’ out of everyone, referring to commentators’ ‘Remember The Name’ call for all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite after he led the West Indies to the ICC T20 World Cup title against England by smashing four sixes in four balls of the final over.

ALSO WATCH:

“Yes, Ian Bishop turns every second player into a superstar, including “Remember the name” Braithwaite. “Don’t start making future stars out of every other player,” the user remarked.

Bishop responded on Friday that as a teenager getting his first taste of senior cricket, he was “ambitionless and drifting,” and that words from veterans like as Phil Simmons, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, and Michael Holding inspired him to believe in himself. He also stated that he will continue to spread this message to other rising artists.

IND VS SA: India defeated South Africa in the first semi-final of the Under 19 World Cup 2024 by two wickets, chasing down 245 in 48.5 overs. The chase wasn’t easy for the Men in Blue, who were left reeling at 32/4 after 11.2 overs. However, skipper Uday Saharan (81 off 124) and Sachin Dhas (96 off 95) put together a mammoth stand of 171 (187) for the fifth wicket to stabilise the innings, and India finally triumphed by two wickets.

Dhas was certainly the game’s hero, scoring a magnificent 96 (95) with 11 fours and a six. The 19-year-old missed out on his second consecutive hundred of the tournament, having previously hit 116 (101) in India’s last group game against Nepal in Bloemfontein.

ALSO WATCH:

Notably, Dhas is from Beed, Maharashtra, and impressed everyone with his six-hitting prowess at an invitational U-19 competition in Pune. The teenager’s six-hitting surprised the organisers, who even checked the size of his bat to ensure that there was no foul play.

Sachin’s father, Sanjay Dhas, named him after the renowned Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who is his second favourite cricketer behind Sunil Gavaskar. In an interview with the Indian Express, Sanjay, who played cricket at the university level, stated that he had planned to make his son a cricketer even before his birth.

Sanjay further admitted that he prepared turf wickets by borrowing money to train his son. However, keeping the wickets fresh due to Beed’s water problem was a mammoth feat. As a result, he had to call up the water tanker every second or third day, and he credits Sachin’s instructor Azhar with helping him develop into the outstanding batter he is today.

Sachin Dhas is the third-highest run scorer of U-19 World Cup 2024

Surekha Das, Sachin’s mother, is an Assistant Police Inspector (API) in the Maharashtra Police and a former Kabaddi player. Sachin’s sister, Pratiksha, is studying for USPC examinations in Pune.

Meanwhile, after his successive match-winning efforts, Sachin Dhas is currently the tournament’s third-highest run scorer, with 294 runs from six innings at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 116.66. He will be eager to deliver another match-winning performance for his squad in the tournament’s final on Sunday, February 11 at the same location.

IND VS SA :Sachin Dhas, named after Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, delivered an outstanding performance to help Team India rebound from a top-order collapse in the first semi-final against South Africa at the U-19 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday. Uday Saharan and Dhas delivered stroke-filled performances in Team India’s exciting two-wicket victory over the hosts in Benoni. Rescuing India from a dangerous 32 for four, the batting partnership put on a match-winning stand of 171 runs for the fifth wicket.

Sachin top-scored for Saharan and Co. in the first semi-final of the U-19 World Cup, hitting 96 off 95 balls as India chased down a tough mark of 245 in 48.5 overs. Sachin, known for his six-hitting skill, will turn 19 this Saturday. Sachin’s father, Sanjay Dhas, named him after batting legend Tendulkar. Interestingly, Sachin’s father, Sanjay, is a huge fan of Sunil Gavaskar, but he named his kid after his second favourite cricketer.

ALSO WATCH:

Sachin’s bat was scrutinised by organisers.
His mother, Surekha Dhas, is an Assistant Police Inspector (API) in the Maharashtra Police. Sachin’s parents played kabaddi at the state level, and his father continued to play cricket at the university level. “I decided before he was born that he would be a cricketer. Sanjay informed the Indian Express that his training began when he was only four and a half years old. Did you know? Sachin’s bat was halted by organisers after he received praise for his six-hitting feats in a U-19 competition in Pune. Sachin scored an amazing 116 against Nepal at the U-19 World Cup.

Uday, Sachin’s teammate and India U-19 skipper, is recognised for his risk-free stroke play. Saharan has scored a century and three half-centuries in the U-19 World Cup. The Punjab batsman captained India at the Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai. He scored the most runs at the Under-19 Challenger Trophy in Guwahati. Saharan smashed half-centuries and scored 297 runs over four innings.

Saharan’s father also desired to be a cricketer.
Saharan came out to bat for India as the reigning champions lost two wickets for eight runs. Saharan led the Indian side from the front, scoring 81 runs off 124 balls to win the match. The Indian captain was run out while attempting the match-winning run. However, the captain’s strike propelled India to its ninth final of the U-19 World Cup. Saharan’s father also desired to be a cricketer. “He used to play the same way, taking it deep. So I attempted to do the same. I knew I could make the big shots at the end if necessary.

It was a typical sight on the Benoni cricket pitch on Tuesday. Indian players dash onto the pitch after punching their ticket to yet another ICC U19 World Cup final – a record-extending fifth consecutive time and ninth overall – leaving South African cricketers devastated, with several unable to fight back tears. After a duel of 98.5 overs that swung from one end to the other, Raj Limbani’s booming cover drive ended the match, sparking wild jubilation in the Indian camp and signalling disaster for the hosts.

As soon as the ball left Limbani’s bat and sliced over the cover and mid-off fielders, the Indian cricketers crowded around the boundary rope. Captain Uday Saharan blocked the others with his raised arms. Waiting a few seconds for the ball to cross the boundary line felt like an eternity. But when it did, they stormed in, lead by Saharan, who yelled his lungs out. Who would have thought he was yelling at the man who scored the winning runs a delivery earlier for running him out?

ALSO WATCH:

The South African camp had quite opposite scenes. Tristan Luus and Nqobani Mokoena were lying down. Several others were in tears. Kwena Maphaka, the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, was spotted making desperate attempts to console his colleagues. Watching a South African cricket team collapse in a knockout match, regardless of age group, is unsettling but not unusual.

Minutes afterward, Saharan was spotted shaking hands and hugging his South African colleague, Juan James. It was an era-defining semi-final.

After setting a goal of 245, South Africa began impressively, thanks to Maphaka’s breakthrough on the opening ball of the innings. Adarsh Singh was helpless against a sharp bouncer, awkwardly nudging it towards the keeper.

The short ball proved to be India’s undoing once more, as Tristan Luus’ accurately-directed bouncer outwitted the dangerous Musheer Khan, triggering wild celebrations in the South African side after the departure of the tournament’s highest run-scorer.

India had to be patient, waiting until the seventh over to get their first boundary, a maximum from Arshin Kulkarni off Maphaka. Unfortunately, India’s lone moment of delight was fleeting, as their troubles worsened, with Arshin succumbing to Luus in the Powerplay’s last over.

India’s plight worse when Moliya, who had scored a boundary off the opening ball of Luus’ over, fell while attempting a wayward drive.

A record hold for 32/4
Faced with a tough scenario at 32/4, captain Saharan and Sachin Dhas worked together to engineer an incredible rescue mission. With runs drying up, the pair used caution and aggression to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Dhas, specifically targeting Riley Norton’s bowling, demonstrated his brilliance by hitting three boundaries in a single over, regaining control for India. While Saharan defended at one end, Dhas took the initiative, scoring a half-century off 47 balls to keep the necessary run rate under 6.

And on the other half,

Maphaka bowled the 47th over and made a significant difference with the last ball of the spell, removing Avanish, with Norton collecting a brilliant catch in the deep. Two balls later, the situation changed again when Abhishek Murugan was caught short of his crease by a powerful hit from Marais.

The two wickets put the pressure back on India, but a six from an unlikely source – Raj Limbani – changed the equation, reducing the target to nine runs off the last two overs.

Saharan ended any dreams of a South African comeback with a four off the first ball of the penultimate over. In another twist in the game, Saharan was run out.Limbani, on the other hand, came in clutch and hit a four off the final ball of the over to extend their unbeaten streak and secure a spot in the finals.

Schedule for the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024: Games start on January 19. On January 20, India U-19 will play their first game against Bangladesh U-19. Here’s why the strategy and statistics point to India U-19 performing well in the competition.

Juan James has been selected South Africa’s captain for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, Cricket South Africa announced on Sunday. After David Teeger was relieved of his duties due to protests over his pro-Israeli remarks at a recent award presentation, the 19-year-old Western Province all-rounder will assume the position.

In July of last year, James led the South African U-19 team in the third and fifth matches of their 50-over series against Bangladesh, where they had previously played five matches.

“CSA has been informed that protests regarding the Gaza conflict may be expected at the tournament locations,” the organisation stated in a statement on Friday. We’ve also been informed that there’s a chance they could spark unrest or even violence, especially amongst opposing protestor groups, and that they will probably centre on David Teeger, the captain of the South African Under-19 team.

“CSA must respect the professional recommendations of those in charge of participant and spectator safety as it is their primary responsibility to protect the interests and safety of everyone involved in the World Cup.

The tournament’s hosts, South Africa, will play their opening match at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on January 19 against the West Indies. In the group stage, they will then play Scotland and England.
