Despite not being the skipper of the team, it is Virat Kohli who has taken over the headlines on Australian newspapers. On Tuesday morning, the Indian cricket team’s batting hero emerged on the front pages of several Australian newspapers. Another India star who can be spotted on some Australian newspapers was left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The front pages of a few newspapers even had bold headlines in Hindi which was certainly a huge surprise. One of the newspapers gave a front page headline saying, “Yugon ki ladai” (Fight for the ages). Jaiswal, on the other hand, was hailed as “Navam Raja” or “The New King.”

On the other hand, Kohli comes into this series after putting up disappointing batting performances throughout the recently-concluded 3-match Test series against New Zealand at home. The star batter will be looking to turn his fortunes around in the highly important Border-Gavaskar series.

The first match of the Border-Gavaskar series will be played from November 22 in Perth. Then, the Men in Blue will travel to Adelaide to play a day-night Test from December 6.

The series will then head over to Brisbane where the Test match will commence from December 14 before moving to Melbourne for the 4th and the all-important Boxing Day Test which will commence on December 26. Finally, the fifth Test of the series will be Sydney from January 3.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur struck an unbeaten 54 but India’s nine-run loss to six-time champions Australia took her side’s fate for a semifinal spot out of their hands in the women’s T20 World Cup here on Sunday.

With Australia marching into the semifinals undefeated, the defeat meant India will now have to wait for the outcome of third-placed New Zealand’s match against Pakistan on Monday.

A win for New Zealand will see them leapfrog India and finish at the second spot. India may currently have a better Net Run Rate but have the same points (4).

Renuka Singh Thakur (2/24) and Deepti Sharma (2/28) played pivotal roles in the bowling department, but Australia posted 151 for 8 after opting to bat.

While Renuka struck twice early on, Deepti grabbed the crucial wickets of Grace Harris (40) and Ellyse Perry (32) in later stages.

However, contributions from Harris, Perry, stand-in skipper Tahlia Mcgrath (32) and an important knock of 15 runs from 9 deliveries by Phoebe Litchfield guided Australia over the 150-run mark.

Shafali Verma gave India a solid start, however wasn’t able to convert her inning into a big one and departed after scoring 20 runs off 13 deliveries. Smriti Mandhana on the other hand, played a disappointing knock of 6 runs off 12 balls before getting dismissed.

India was bolstered by Harmanpreet’s fifty (54*) and her 63-run stand for the fourth wicket with Deepti Sharma (29), but they crumbled under pressure to be restricted to 142/9 in 20 overs.

With 28 needed off the last 2 overs, India took 14 off the penultimate over. Needing 14 runs from the last over, they lost as many as 4 wickets to concede the game to Australia, as Harmanpreet was stranded on the other end.

India paid the price for sloppy fielding and also leaving it too late in run chase. Only 2 fours were hit between 7.4 and the end of 14th over as Harmanpreet hit her first boundary on her 15th ball. The Women in Blue only have themselves to blame for this defeat.

Australia emerged victorious in their third consecutive ICC event final, defeating India to claim the title of U-19 champions. The Men in Blue’s misfortune in the summit matches persisted. The Australian men’s team had already lost to them in the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI final; now, the opposing U-19 squad had defeated them to win the trophy.

Nothing went well for India that night as a disciplined bowling attack from Australia left Uday Saharan and Co. with no room to score runs. Despite their best efforts, Adarsh Singh and Murugan Abhishek were unable to withstand the storm as seven Indian batsmen were removed for single figures.

Earlier on Sunday in Benoni, Australia defeated India with a score of 253/7 thanks to tenacious 46 from Oliver Peake and 55 from Harjas Singh, the best total in a U-19 World Cup final. The best bowler in India was Raj Limbani, who claimed three wickets, and Naman Tiwari, who claimed two.

India’s ineffective spin bowling attack

Right from the beginning the Australian batting lineup seemed calm, they were not scoring too slow nor too fast. The Aussies maintained their partnerships Weibgen and Dixion carried forward with the innings when Australia lost one early wicket and set up a solid partnership of 78 runs. Harjas Singh on the other hand played an outstanding knock of 55 runs which put his team in a very solid position. India came down with a spin inclined bowling lineup but that did not seem to be that effective. Only pacer Raj Limbani and Naman Tiwari took 3 and 2 wickets respectively, while spinners Saumy Pandey and Musheer Khan claimed one wicket each. Fast Bowling clearly dominated the first innings.

No solid partnerships and complete collapse of middle order

In the World Cup Final where the batting lineup was supposed to play a crucial role, it miserably failed and couldn’t survive the Australian bowling. Seven Indian batters ended up scoring just one digit, The inefficiency of superstar Sachin Dhas (9), Uday Saharan (8), Arshin Kulkarni (3), and Musheer Khan (22), among others, Australia was able to reduce India to 128-8. The only person who could save eight down was Murugan Abhishek (42) but when he was removed from the game, India’s dreams of winning the World Cup also vanished.

Uday Saharan in the Post-match presentation also spoke about how the middle order didn’t score runs:

We played a few rash shots today, didn’t spend time in the middle. We were prepared but couldn’t execute the plans.

Australia’s 79-run triumph to capture their fourth Under-19 World Cup championship on Sunday duplicated another World Cup final heartache for defending champions India. Within the space of three months, India advanced to the World Cup final twice without a loss, both times against Australia, and both times they were defeated. The Australian players raced onto the field after the game’s outcome was decided, with captain Hugh Weibgen leaving a lasting impression on Michael Vaughan in 2005 after winning the Ashes. Two maiden overs from Australia, with a target of 254, hinted to the sequence of events that would take place in the next 43.5 overs.

Australia gained an early advantage in the final game due to the two early wickets of Arshin Kulkarni and Musheer Khan in the first powerplay.

Callum Vidler’s spell was incredible, while Mahli Beardman’s speed was lightning fast.
Beardman dismissed India’s skipper Uday Saharan in single digits for the first time in the competition, which signalled that the chase wasn’t going to be a stroll in the park for the Indian squad.
It was a good move by both pacers to force Indian hitters to play false strokes and give up wickets. Next up was Raf MacMillan, who made the most of his surface resources during his spin.

During their record run-chase against Australia in Sunday’s U-19 World Cup final at Willowmoore Park, Team India encountered several hurdles. In 33.1 overs, Australia reduced India to 128-8 due to the ineffectiveness of superstar Sachin Dhas (9); Uday Saharan (8), Arshin Kulkarni (3), and Musheer Khan (22), among others. Murugan Abhishek (42) remained the only hope for eight-down but his wicket fell and so did the hopes for India to win the World Cup.

Earlier, India managed to restrict Australia for the majority of the innings, but they rallied to post a total of 253/7 in their 50 overs. Oliver Peake, who had entered the match with a previous best score of just 17 in the event, ended up undefeated on 46 off 43 to provide the last push, and Harjas Singh smashed 55 in 64 balls. In his ten overs, pacer Raj Limbani scored 3/38, while Naman Tiwari claimed two wickets for 63 runs. Each of the spinners Saumy Pandey and Musheer Khan claimed a wicket.

Hugh Weibgen of Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, giving India an early lead when Limbani removed opener Sam Konstas in his second over. After that, Weibgen and opener Harry Dixon set up a solid partnership that yielded 78 runs for the second wicket. After that, Tiwari entered the game and removed both batsmen in quick succession, allowing India to regain control. Then Harjas Singh entered the game and, with some tremendous smashes, especially against the spinners, he broke out of the bad form that had dogged him throughout the competition. Before Limbani reappeared and dismissed Ryan Hicks for 20 off 25, he amassed the most of his runs in a 66-run partnership with him off just 68 balls for the fourth wicket.

Both India and Australia advanced to the championship game after two incredibly tight semifinal wins. Australia was forced to the limit by Pakistan and won by one wicket with five balls remaining, while India defeated South Africa by two wickets with seven balls remaining.

U19 WC 2024: Ravichandran Ashwin, an Indian spin veteran, praised compatriot and U19 skipper Uday Saharan for staying cool throughout the ICC U19 World Cup, which begins on Sunday with a championship match against Australia. India will face Australia in the U19 World Cup final in Benoni. This is India’s sixth consecutive U19 World Cup final appearance, and the third versus Australia. Australia has never defeated India in the U19 World Cup final. If India defeats Australia, they would win the championship for the sixth time, while Australia will win it for the fourth time.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated that many people have already dubbed Uday the ‘Find of the Tournament’. However, the spin veteran believes that his confidence is more noteworthy, comparing it to emerging Indian star Rinku Singh, who is performing well as a finisher for the senior squad.

“This World Cup, many people are already dubbing him the discovery of the tournament; he is the first skipper to be the team’s best run scorer. It’s not about the runs; it’s Uday Saharan’s match-winning ability that impresses me, as is the calmness with which he plays,” remarked Ashwin.

“Something like Rinku Singh, as I mentioned lately. It cannot be purchased with money. Uday Saharan has that nurtured in him. He has a quiet confidence. “He has a calm, composed, and confident personality,” Ashwin said.

Uday is the leading run scorer in the U19 World Cup, with 389 runs in six matches at an average of 64.83, including a century and three fifties. His highest score is 100.

Saharan’s reputation has increased throughout the tournament, with his match-winning 81 in the semi-final against South Africa playing a key part in his team’s progression to the final. With the side struggling at 32/4, his double-century partnership with Sachin Dhas helped India reach the 245-run mark.

Saharan also hit a century in India’s Super Sixes match against Nepal, and he has been able to adjust his style of play to the various scenarios he has faced during the tournament.

The final match between India and Australia will start at 1:30 PM IST.
