India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has recently been in the headlines amid rumours of divorce with his wife Dhanashree Verma. Chahal got engaged to Dhanashree on August 8, 2020 and the couple got married in a private ceremony on December 22, 2020.

Amid the massive announcement, several reports claimed that Chahal removed all pictures with Dhanashree from his social media account recently, giving rise to the divorce rumours.

Meanwhile, Chahal is reportedly set to appear on Bigg Boss 18 this Sunday according to the Times of India. The report further claimed that both Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh will also be appearing on the show. The trio are set to feature for the Punjab Kings in the upcoming season of the IPL.

Earlier, Dhanashree had broken her silence on divorce rumours with husband Chahal.

“The past few days have been incredibly tough for my family and me. What’s truly upsetting is the baseless writing, devoid of fact checking, and the character assassination of my reputation by faceless trolls spreading hate,” Dhanashree wrote in an Instagram story.

“I’ve worked hard for years to build my name and integrity. My silence is not a sign of weakness; but of strength. While negativity spreads easily online, it takes courage and compassion to uplift others. I choose to focus on my truth and move forward, holding onto my values. The truth stands tall without the need for justification,” Dhanashree further wrorte.

Following this, Chahal posted a cryptic message on Instagram which read: “Silence is a profound melody, for those who can hear it above all the noise.” – Socrates.

Gautam Gambhir’s time period as the Indian head coach is going to witness a moment of estimation on January 2 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), as the national team is going to play in the fifth and final Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

While the Indian head coach Gambhir was one of the main deciders in leaving Rohit out of the playing XI, he set this incident during his own playing days. In the 2018edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gambhir came to Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils at that time) and got named the franchise’s captain.

However, he struggled to make runs, as he had scored 85 runs in six innings and could not bring out expected results for the team. During his tenure, Delhi Capitals won just one of their six matches.

Between the team’s poor results and him struggling himself, Gambhir gave the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer and refused to play any more matches that season. That season also was the last time he played as an IPL player.

I didn’t make any call to be honest. It wasn’t my decision to drop him. He himself decided to sit out, which was really courageous decision with him being the captain in the previous matches,” Shreyas Iyer said in the media interaction when Gambhir decided to sit out.

The respect for him has gone really high. It’s really [good to] see when a captain if he’s not playing well, he backs out. Colin [Munro] came in and gave us the desired start,” he added.

According to media reports in 2018, Gambhir had even decided to let go of his salary of Rs. 2.8 crore from Delhi Capitals.

Out-of-favour India batter Prithvi Shaw’s career has been going through a downward spiral. Recently, the 25-year-old was not included in Mumbai’s squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, following a mediocre display in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Following the average performances, Shaw’s fitness and discipline have been put under the scanner.

Now, Shaw has been asked to play in the Police Shield Invitational Tournament. He will lead the Mumbai Colts team. The competition involves 2-day matches at various venues around Mumbai.

Recently, a MCA official talked about Shaw’s disciplinary and fitness issues. This statement came after Shaw wasn’t able to impress in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The batter did not even reach the 200-run mark in the entire tournament, and his only substantial knock came during the quarter-final against Vidarbha.

“In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely be able to get to it,” a MCA official told PTI.

“Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players,” the official added.

Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer also believes that Shaw needs to get his work ethics right and if he can do so, then sky will be the limit for him.

“He needs to get his work ethics right, if he does, the sky’s the limit for him. We cannot babysit anyone. At the end of the day, it’s his responsibility to figure out things for himself,” Iyer said after Mumbai’s triumph in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

India’s out-of-favour batter Prithvi Shaw has suffered a massive blow as he has been excluded from Mumbai’s squad for the first three matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, set to begin December 21. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the 17-member squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which did not see Prithvi Shaw being listed anywhere.

Even after being part of Mumbai’s squad which won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024, Prithvi’s individual was not impressive. He failed to meet the expectations as he only managed to collect 197 runs in 9 matches.

Shaw’s performances have been anything but impressive, as even in the SMAT’s title match against Madhya Pradesh, he got dismissed for just 10 runs. the continuous flop performances by Shaw also became the reason of him not getting any deal in the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

Prithvi’s struggles have been clear throughout the year. In October 2024, he got dropped down from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad citing fitness and disciplinary concerns.

Mumbai Captain Shreyas Iyer, was asked about Prithvi Shaw after Mumbai won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 title, where he said:

I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. That’s true. It’s just that he needs to improve his work ethics. And I have said it before as well in many of the interviews. He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, you know, sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can’t force him. He has played so much of cricket. And everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to go out there and figure out things for himself“.

We can’t babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing. And he has also done it in the past. It’s not that he hasn’t. He has to focus. He has to sit back, put a thinking cap on and then figure out himself. He will get the answer. No one can force him to do anything,” Iyer further added.

Mumbai’s squad for 1st three Vijay Hazare Trophy matches:
Shreyas Iyer (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Jay Bista, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Siddhesh Lad, Hardik Tamore, Prasad Pawar, Atharva Ankolekar, Tanush Kotian, Shardul Thakur, Royston Dias, Juned Khan, Harsh Tanna and Vinayak Bhoir.

Mumbai’s impressive batting prowess once again came to their aid as they went on to beat Madhya Pradesh by 5 wickets to clinch the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

MP gave Mumbai a fighting target of 175 to achieve following an incredible batting display from Rajat Patidar, who played an unbeaten inning of 81. Mumbai ended up reaching the target in 17.5 overs, riding on knocks from Suryakumar Yadav (48), Ajinkya Rahane (37) and Suryansh Shedge (36*)

This was Mumbai’s second SMAT title after winning it for the first time in 2022, while MP’s wait for a maiden trophy prolonged to another season.

After a brief period of lull, Suryakumar reactivated his run-making ways and added 52 runs for the third wicket with Rahane.

It helped Mumbai to recover from the early dismissals of Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer, both of them falling to rather causal shots.

It looked as if the duo would take Mumbai home however, both Suryakumar and Rahne would end up losing their wickets between 3 overs.

At 129 for five in 14.4 overs, Mumbai needed 46 runs but any worries were soon eased by the big-hitting Shedge and Atharva Ankolekar (16*) who knocked off the remaining runs without much fuss in a little over 3 overs.

Brief scores: Madhya Pradesh: 174/8 in 20 overs (Rajat Patidar 81 not out, Subhranshu Senapati 23; Shardul Thakur 2/41, Royston Dias 2/32) lost to Mumbai: 180/5 in 17.5 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 48, Ajinkya Rahane 37, Suryansh Shedge 36 not out; Tripuresh Singh 2/34) by 5 wickets.

India batter Ajinkya Rahane played a sublime knock of 98 from 56 deliveries to carry Mumbai to a 6-wicket victory over Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The win saw Mumbai book their place in the final which is set to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday.

Rahane hit 5 boundaries and 11 sixes in his brilliant knock and was assisted well by skipper Shreyas Iyer who also played a decent knock of 46 from 30 deliveries to help Mumbai achieve the target of 159 in 17.2 overs.

The 88-run partnership between Rahane and Iyer led Mumbai to complete the chase rather comfortably. Suryansh Shedge finished the match with a towering six on the very first ball that he faced.

Earlier, Baroda was put into bat first under overcast conditions. Krunal Pandya and Shashwat Rawat took the score to 73 in the first 9 overs before Shedge dismissed the former to trigger a batting collapse. Baroda could only manage to put a total of 158/7 on the board after Hardik Pandya also failed to deliver, scoring 5 runs off 6 deliveries.

From 73/1 to 103/6, Baroda lost wickets in heaps before Atit Sheth and Shivalik Sharma played attacking cameos of 22 and 36 respectively to carry their side to a respectable total.

India’s T20 World Cup winning duo Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube destroyed Services with blistering knocks for Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Thanks to their fantastic partnership, Mumbai would go on to post a mammoth total of 192/4, which proved to be too much for Services, who fell 39 runs short.

After losing the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer cheaply, the duo of Suryakumar and Dube pummeled the Services bowling attack to carry Mumbai to the huge total. The former got dismissed after playing a fine knock of 70 off 46 deliveries which included 7 boundaries and 4 sixes. On the other hand, Dube remained unbeaten on 71 off just 37 deliveries. The knock included 2 boundaries and 7 humongous sixes.

In reply, Services never really got going and at one point even got reduced to 34/4. Skipper Mohit Ahlawat’s 54 did restore some faith but the other batters weren’t able to deliver as Mumbai bowled them out for 153 runs in 19.3 overs.

Shardul Thakur was the star performer for Mumbai in the bowling department, picking up 4 wickets for 25 runs and Shams Mulani also finished with decent figures of 3/40.
